syntaxrigger posted:Having worked for banks and in finance the software these systems are built on are brittle as hell. Not having to deal with ACH would make writing new finance software a lot faster. I work with financial software including check and you are absolutely right. It's also terrifying how afraid to upgrade banks and credit unions are. There's still a good chunk on Server 2008 and some on 2003.

I AM GRANDO posted:Are there really undecided voters at this point in history? Or is that meant in the sense of “undecided about whether or not they’re going to bother voting this time”? Yeah every time I saw someone say they were "undecided" in 2020 I called bullshit on. It's fine to have said "I really am defeated and don't care who wins so I'm sleeping in Tuesday" but no one was really having trouble deciding between Biden and Trump

Twincityhacker posted:My Dad was a Republican for decades. I'm not sure when he jumped ship and started voting Democrat, but the absolute latest had to be 2008. I was a "republican" from about 1996-2002. Something really bothered me about Bill Clinton and by proxy, Al Gore. And yeah, not crazy about Hilary either. So I voted Bush in 2000 and then either didn't vote or voted Libertarian until 2018. Politics didn't do anything for me and the dream of true Libertarian where we're fiscally conservative but socially liberal appealed to me. Of course then 2016 hit and holy poo poo did I reevaluate my political compass. Trump was so offensively bad that I had to start paying attention. Voted Democrat for the first time in 2018 and in 2020, though I still wish we could get a candidate under 60 that's actually popular and not "Not Trump"
