The original COD also had a grim Russian campaign to take Berlin, it drew a lot upon the film Enemy at the Gates for its aesthetic. It's been a while since I've played a COD, maybe I'll rent this new Modern Warfare 2 (2022)

the idea of proximity chat in games is cool... i don't think it has ever been as effectively utilized as it was in splinter cell: pandora tomorrow spies versus mercs though, where spies could listen into merc comms if they were close enough or had a surveillance bug. or when you grabbed a merc you could hijack their voice channel so my friend would always taunt the other merc telling them "you're next" right before he snapped their partner's neck
