Welcome back! to SEASON FORTY-EIGHT dear god those numbers..... Let's do the rundown. OUT -a whole bunch of folk. Eight to be exact. Kate, Pete, Aidy, Kyle, Alex, Melissa, Aristotle ( ), and Chris. Except for Aristotle, they were all due to check out, and I wish a few more had joined them, namely Cecily, Colin, and Michael. Yes they're great but we shouldn't have people rooted at the Update desk for a decade at a time. And Cecily was from the same class as Aidy and Kate. Trim this poo poo down! Kenan is obviously going to be on the show until IN Writeups courtesy of Caitlyn Taylor quote:Marcello Hernandez is a Cuban/Dominican-American comedian, writer, actor, and producer from Miami, Florida. The comedian began his stand-up career in 2016, opening for Tim Dillon, Jim Breuer, Mark Viera, Gilbert Gottfried, and more. As well as appearing on Telemundo’s Acceso Total and NBC’s 6 in 2022, Hernandez is known for hosting the social media account Only in Dade about Miami, Florida. quote:American actor and standup comedian Molly Kearney comes from Cleveland, Ohio. After starting their career as a stand-up in Chicago, Kearney relocated to L.A., and has since appeared in Comedy Central’s Up Next showcase as well as other productions, including A League of Their Own as Fern Dannley, and the short film Significant Others. Kearney is Saturday Night Live’s first nonbinary cast member. quote:Originally from Phoenix, Arizona, Michael Longfellow is an American comedian, actor, and writer now living in Los Angeles. Longfellow has done standup in comedy festivals and clubs around the world including Netflix Is A Joke Fest in early 2022. Longfellow for his standup routines in a plethora of works including series like Get Over it, How to Be Broke, Bring the Funny, Laugh After Dark, Conan, and Laughs. quote:Devon Walker is a Black American comedian and actor from Austin, Texas, where he started his standup career. In addition to Clusterfest, Moontower Comedy Festival, and Big Sky Comedy Festival, Walker participated in numerous other comedy festivals. As for tonight's show Did you ever wonder what crudités was at the Wednesday read-throughs? Well now you know! Have a couple photos of the new guys Miles Tellers, you know him from the bloody hands jazz drum film and the cool sky gun war movie (Top Gun: Maverick was a great theatrical experience, military propaganda or not.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sm9UBz3l-l0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5r4oz4GXQTk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-Z_0VD-QtY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SS1wmdqrYl4 And Kendrick Lamar is appearing for his second time on the show. Finally let me end this by saying, Monday marks the 30th anniversary of the first episode of SNL I ever taped; my older sister and I had started watching the show towards the end of Summer rerun season, but we could only see the first 30-ish minutes of it before we had to go to work. Our parents had just gotten a VCR that Summer and she had the brilliant idea to tape the show to watch Sunday morning. That first show we taped was the second of S18, Tim Robbins with Sinead O'Conner. Yeah. Needless to say, I was hooked. Three decades- 30 years- later and I'm still here. Thank goodness! To commemorate this occasion, please enjoy this episode. It's not my recording (my mum accidentally taped an HBO movie over it around '94 or '95,) but it's an insanely clean, complete rip. I'll leave it up for the weekend.

"Well, *I* heard that they rarely put the host in the cold open, so when they do, it's special!" "Special, or desperate?"

|
That was a decent cold open.

going that meta in the first sketch of the season was unexpected. i guess they realize the only people watching are in this thread

I'm choosing to interpret the cold open as a brutal takedown of how us insufferable nerds pick apart the show immediately after it's over https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9y90HI1W4go

Am I insane or does Devon Walker look like Pete Davidson in blackface? I just did a double take

The real OGs re-enacted SNL sketches as kids. I did a few, most disturbingly the Continental. An 11-year-old getting unwittingly rapey with his teenage sister. Ah, youth.

"Why does everything in our lives revolve around going to the bathroom!?" I'm not sure whether this sketch or the BeReal sketch was the sponsored sketch.
|
# ? Oct 2, 2022 04:57 |
|
It's gotta be BeReal, the sponsored bits are nearly always pretapes (presumably so the sponsor can screen it for objectionable content)

Meant to ask before the show started, but did Chris Redd leave because he was loving Keenan’s (now-ex) wife or was that just incidental?

Wait, is that BeReal thing an actual product? It sounded dumb as hell

I probably would’ve liked that Charmin sketch more if it didn’t remind me so much of the following: https://youtu.be/IMKW-ifxikE

I'm getting the same feeling with this new logo that I got years ago when I discovered all the first drafts Pentagram came up with the last logo refresh in S40, trying to imagine the show using these and having it break my brain. https://vimeo.com/109030470 https://vimeo.com/109030471

No way the AMC also wasn't a paid placement. Maybe they are going to go all out and do a whole bunch of paid sketches this year

The AMC sketch went places. Kenan said it best with that "...the $#%& just happened?!" in the end.

Is the air conditioning out or something? Edit: okay, jokes aside, he was using a fan that apparently was last used in a cooling center in the NYC metro area last summer, according to something I saw on Twitter. Involuntary Sparkle fucked around with this message at 05:27 on Oct 2, 2022 |

I dunno, this episode felt awfully weak to me. I get the feeling that the line about this being a "rebuilding season" may turn out to be eerily prescient.
