lol if you look at some of the garbage that got 15-20 AAV last offseason maybe that isn't that crazy but if you're the one paying him that it's not likely to work out.

It's all conjecture at this point though. maffew buildings posted:Hmmm clearly the player with the most truly historic season ever being considered for MVP is an indicator of anti Yankees bias and not them being rational, it's hating dingers in pinstripes The "most historic season ever" is 2 wins less valuable than what Judge did. So it's not the most historic season ever.

STAC Goat posted:i will cry if Judge walks and while I may be fooling myself as a homer and I don't discount that he could leave I really do think it makes all the sense in the world from both sides for him to stay. And none of the mcmagic level misinformation can convince me otherwise. They offered him a big deal in April that would have killed any of the "they won't spend" arguments. They gambled he couldn't get more (and many of the posters here mocked him for thinking he could). He went and had a historic season and wrote himself into Yankee history books. Now the Yankees can't let him walk. Even if you believe some conspiracy theory that the first deal was all a bluff to say "we tried" and let him walk, he called their bluff and now you gotta pay. The team with Judge on it isn’t close to good enough to even get to the World Series. In fact they were flat out bad for most of the year with him on it. Do you think it’s likely that they would pay Judge and then also do what is necessary to actually build a good team around him?

maffew buildings posted:little known fact that 99 win teams are bad most of the year WOW This is a dumb statement. When you watch every game you see what a team is. The Yankees had a unbelievable fluky 60ish game stretch that was fueled by incredible pitching both in the bullpen and the rotation that was unsustainable. Once that normalized in June the rest of the season was a .500 mediocre team that almost blew a 15 game lead and then shat all over the field in the playoffs like they always do.

Paracaidas posted:Learn something new every day, didn't realize baseball even had goalposts. The point I've made here over and over again is that the yankees had a 200mm payroll 12 years ago. It clearly hasn't increased with the revenues. They are spending FAR less of a % of the revenue on the payroll as they used to. That is just a fact. They have used the luxury tax as a reason not to do player moves in a way the Steve Cohen Mets and the Dodgers just don't. Also their issue is clearly not just that they don't spend enough, they have done a terrible job allocating the money they do spend.
