90s era CMJ New Music Monthly was great. I only bought it for the CDs because I didn't buy a lot of music and at the time they had a lot of variety of songs that I'd like but would have never heard otherwise and sometimes spent YEARS not being able to find the songs anywhere else.. Good news, though, a lot of issues seem to be archives on Google Books, so they're a pretty cool time capsule or nostalgia piece for Gen-Xers.
