Man I love Krauser. Dude just created himself a backstory out of nowhere to insert himself into the game, and was so confident about it that I totally believed it until I learned more about series lore. I like what they're trying to do with the fights, but between QTEs and the game's controls I just don't enjoy it in practice. These sequences are ones I hope get a lot of retuning in the remake.

I also love Saddler here, him just being generally chatty and rolling with Leon's one-liners is really fun. This episode shows a lot of the silly melodrama that I think is a big part of the game's charm, stuff I'll really miss if the remake goes for a more serious tone overall.

Krauser's hilarious because he talks like a returning character but nope, he had his action off-screen. In between RE2 and RE4 apparently he and Leon were sent down to South America to deal with Umbrella starting poo poo. Leon's fabulous hair comes through just fine, Krauser ends up with his arm hosed up and is given a medical discharge from the Army which kind of emotionally destroys the man (hence him joining Umbrella to get the spiny arm).

Best part is, compared to any other Resident Evil character he's basically the new guy talking poo poo like an old hand after surviving his first week on the job. Leon and Ada are "Mmmhmm, yeah, you go get them, champ."

I've always wondered what was going on when they were writing this. They had to have planned the Darkside Chronicles when they came up with Krauser, right? Or did Capcom really create him and say yeah, he and Leon have a history, we'll give him a backstory later, or maybe not, whatever.

The latter. Krauser's backstory comes from the on-rail shooter Biohazard/Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles which came out 4 years later for the Wii. Chronologically it happened in 2002 of the Resident Evil universe (Raccoon City: 1998, RE4: 2004).

Him talking so much poo poo was already hilarious. It's even more-so when you actually know the background they finally wrote for him. It makes Leon and Ada reacting to him with such dead tones magical. "Yeah, sure, whatever. You gonna fight me or what?"

I can understand why you'd think Krauser's arm looks more like a G-Virus mutation, because the shield portion does look similar to some of the later Birkin phases (phase 3 and 4, mostly). But, it also looks like the first headburster Plagas (the whip variant Travis hates), just with the blade edge being more pronounced and more wing-like. I do wonder if that was on purpose (as in, a red herring to throw people off), if only because Krauser's mutation looks so divorced from the rest of the Las Plagas mutations.

But, since you brought it up, you want to know the real hilarious part about the mutant T-Rex (which actually is a G-Virus mutation) from RE6? That's phase two of four for that particular boss fight for Leon. So yeah, Leon dealing with long and drawn-out boss fights is nothing new for the guy.

RE6 is hilarious to watch and painful to play. Ideal LP material, really - there's an older on in the archive and I heartily recommend watching it just for how stupid that game gets.

Oh yeah, I actually default to the knife specifically because I'm not so good at shooting him a lot of the time. The timing's not actually that tough, and the damage adds up fast enough to make up for letting him get in your face so much.

Speaking of Krauser, he shows up in the newest trailer for the RE4 remake, including some teases of what his new boss fight is going to look like.

As well as some other stuff, most stuff shown has been areas already visited. But warning for spoilers either way.

Yanno, an RE 4 with Louis playing a bigger part would be pretty awesome. Bonus if they retcon it so he actually lives. That would be a retcon I'd totally appreciate.

He just kind of popped in and out a few times in the original game, so I'm all for what looks like him being promoted to a full RE5/6 style co-op partner for multiplayer. If anything it means we get more of his goofy lines.

I genuinely need someone to sit down and explain to me like I'm seven years old why and what exactly they think they're going to take out of the remake. Everything with a hint of personality to it like the merchant's scenery chewing lines? Suplexing enemies?

I really need a list of things, because I doubt after RE 5's Mayan/Aztec sun laser mirrors, Irving's voice and acting, all of 6's other little chuckle-worthy easter eggs like Chris and his Co-Op partner being able to interact with playground toys and a slide, I can't see them taking out anything aside from Luis commenting on Ashley's ballistics. Or maybe they'll do more so people will see this guy and be like 'Eww, this dude's a creep' even before you find out about how he added 70% of the data on the Las Plagas research.

On a more serious note it was kind of hilarious watching the dichotomy between the frustration of hiding in cover hoping the helicopter would actually trigger its kill on the miniguns anytime soon and the cutscene's assumed sheer emotional loss of faceless helicopter man.

Well that and Leon going "you killed him! How could you?" *camera pans over the literal hundreds upon hundreds of people the man has already killed with the parasites, not to mention the handful of people Leon spent infinitely more time around. Also the fact that he is currently in the process of being murdered by the man by means of aforementioned killer body bug implantation* The scene returns to Leon:
"You've crossed a line this time! A human life is more valuable than an insect one!"

Yeah, this is a section that just doesn't feel quite right. The idea of having a chopper guy up there clearing the way for you is great, but in practice the timing always feels a little off. There's always points where I'm just standing around wondering if he's going to do something or if I'm supposed to be pushing ahead to trigger something. It's not terrible, but I think it could be smoothed out a bit.

Also, this video reminded me that I never thought to try it, but do flash grenades do anything to regenerators? I was thinking that the parasites might be protected if they were inside the creatures' bodies, but from seeing the thermal scope here I'd forgotten that they're pretty clearly sitting on the outside, just invisible to the naked eye.

There's a note in that little outdoor area right after the Saddler/Ada cutscene explaining the Las Plagas removal system, basically "you can use a special type of radiation to kill them, it hurts a lot and might kill you but it beats being taken over by one".

Anyway, loving fantastic game. I kind of wish that I had something capable of running the remake, but the original still goes hard enough that I like to replay it every couple of years (and I'm due for one soon!)

So, fun fact: throughout the game, if you zoom in on the Merchant's eyes, you'll see that he's got red eyes like everyone else infected with Las Plagas. Except for the moment right before you fight Saddler, where his eyes are now a...I think normal brown color (I forget the exact color). Meaning that he too managed to remove the parasite from himself like Leon and Ashley did. So yeah, there's only one parasite left at the end in Saddler's final form and Leon takes care of it.

Regardless, thanks for the great LP. I loved the more unhinged mental images of Ashley and Leon you two kept coming up with. Now to see what the remake can bring to the table.

Ah, fun. I like the final boss fight even if it's not the most interesting thing mechanically, it has a good sense of scale with mutated Saddler. I was having trouble with money on my last time through, and only got the huge Striker ammo upgrade at the very last merchant - it would've been nice earlier, but blowing through the entire boss with it was very satisfying. Anyways, thanks for putting in the work for the playthrough. I love the game despite some shaky design towards the end, and I'm always up to see a new playthrough, especially with someone who's never been through it before.
