Kevin Smith, if you've ever been to one of his Q&As he can just ramble. I went to a Q&A for Clerks 3 and someone asked if he'd ever feature or do a film featuring a disabled person again, he went on a 45 minute tangent telling us the original script for Clerks 3 cover to cover with every scene fleshed out and some roundabout away there was a disabled person in it or something. You could feel the audience grow tired.

Remember decades ago where kevin was able to do a nice fun "evening with kevin smith" and he could tell funny stories about how stupid hollywood is/was?

I wonder what happened to that guy.

it will just get more and more specific to keep that small niche flavor. the kevin smith of bronies is probably out there right now busting rear end and honing their chops, and we wont know their work until it goes mainstream 25 years from now.

Yeah thats a good take, he had that Fatman on Batman podcast where the early episodes had excellent interviews with Adam West, Paul Dini, Kevin Conroy, etc that hadnt been done before. Then he kept making episodes & it got exhausting as he had zero critical eye & praised everything Batman as perfect which got old fast. Should have been a limited series but he just cant stop talking.

Lol I checked and it guess its called Fat Man Beyond now, and his initial thoughts ep on Obi-Wan is nearly 3 hours.

I watched Clerks and II at least twice each and loved them, and also a number of other View Askewniverse movies, inc. the Jay & Silent Bob one recently (hey, I've seen worse films). Because I loved them, I won't be seeing this film in a hurry, preferably ever. IMO it would be as awful as it sounds from the plot details you give.

Did you pay :10bux: for a cinema ticket, so can't admit you were cheated?

Yeah I paid :10bux: lol

The weird thing about this movie is I know its absolute poo poo but since Clerks 1 and 2 were so important to me when I was younger I still enjoyed seeing the characters again which was all I really wanted out of it. Which is why I say youre only going to like this if youre a fan in the first place.

Even concepts which sound like they have potential to be funny such as Elias being a satanist in this one arent and end up falling flat.

If you liked Jay and Silent Bob Reboot which I think is the weakest View Askew movie of the lot you should at least give this one a go I think.

I just remembered another bad bit from the movie. It starts with the song Black Parade by My Chemical Romance. And I dont mean like just it plays over the opening credits. They make you sit through all 5 and half minutes of the song whilst they play hockey on the roof with the guys from Comic Book Men. Its as terrible as it sounds.

I'm just glad that Kevin Smith was the guy who got to keep making movies after the mid 90s independent movie auteur thing died off, and not the guy who wrote/directed Boondock Saints and as far as I know is still trying to get a sequel made

Anyone feel free to correct me, because my kevin smith lore is weak as gently caress.

Kevin was friends with sex pest harvey Weinstein. Harvey protected him. Also as stupid as hollywood is there is a culture of "you never know who make it big or end up working at what studio/thing. So you must always say positive things about everyone. at all times."

Thats what made an evening with kevin smith fun he would take the piss out of hollywood by breaking that rule. The story about how the superman movie sucks is a great example he walks in the a warner brothers meeting tells a suit the scripts sucks and why. That suit knows he can never say those things but if they have this fact gently caress saying it then they wont get any flack. So it becomes a case of having kevin repeat himself 3 time etc etc.

He also at one point said he d been costing on the gaint spider producer for years. etc.

now I remember people were having a problem with some heman netflick show and I heard that some autist trolled through hours and hours of Kevins podcasts to find him shiting on heman or something.

Anyway clerks was a fun movie from the mid 90's kevin did know how to write fun dialog. He s a one trick pony of a director but....

in a content streaming war I m surprised he doesnt just crank out other peoples scripts and just make more low budget movies.

and finally he s fallen to the relm of paid shill influncer, and seeing a dude in his early 50s yelling about star wars is just sad.

also how many dicks got sucked in clerks 3

i think his career got a boost when he directed some episodes for tv that got a lot of praise. it was superhero tv but still, i think it shows if he focused on directing and probably producing he'd actually probably turn out something for real.

Thanks for the heads-ups re Clerks The Animated Series, which I hadn't seen before. Just had a look at the first one. Not bad. Some laughs (prob. a lot more in 22 minutes than in the whole of Clerks 3).

I especially liked this bit:

quote:

(Randal gets trampled by a manic crowd, stands up, dusts himself off and makes a joke)

Randal (to an overexcited passerby): What's going on?

Passerby : Don't you know?!?! He has returned!!

Randal (looking genuinely worried): Uh oh (cowers)... Jesus?

Passerby: Better!... :goonsay:
