That poor kid's been made to feel miserable by a lot of people for quite a while now and it's been killing me to watch. Sylvania's here in the Toledo area and the story of that kid has been one of those terribly-kept secrets for a long time, especially around the coaches and parents of the high school teams I do broadcasts for. Understandably, there was no official mention of it from the school or police since everyone was a minor at the time. There aren't a lot, but the few really good hockey players from the Toledo area wind up just hopping over the border into the junior leagues in Michigan or go up into Canada, and Mitchell was another in that vein. There was a looottt of blowback on Isiah and his parents when everything officially came to light after Arizona drafted Mitchell, and I'm sure everything with Boston has only brought on more. Most of it, as you'd probably imagine, is the "he was just a kid, deserves a second chance" thing, along with the garden variety cancel culture arguments. I can't say I know or know of Mitchell's parents but yeah it wouldn't surprise me if the apple didn't fall far from the tree there. Sylvania's a relatively smaller town of a lot of rich sports parents and you can imagine how that gets after a while. I've seen high school referees escorted by police back to their cars after some games and heard parents calling for kids to get run or injured. Some really sick poo poo. The age of social media naming and shaming has knocked some of it down and the local rink has gotten better about tossing parents out for being assholes, so there's at least that.
