https://pitchfork.com/news/low-mimi-parker-has-died/ Mimi Parker of Mormon husband and wife slowcore pioneers Low died. She had ovarian cancer apparently. Objectively more talented than Aaron Carter. She had a really pretty voice and would play drums with things like paint brushes. Sucks. I really dig Low. Back when I was super depressed, slowcore was like the only thing I could listen to. They rebelled by turning the volume down. I saw them only once and it was a bad show because it was at Terminal Five and they were opening for Slowdive I think and I don't care about Slowdive. Low only played for like 30 minutes., Here are some of my favorite Low songs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xqTTX11jr-M https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LvaqUYqrghk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbCF2OqZOfE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wAfl1YY9s0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZ0mcMDN8UI

Aww drat. Way back, a friend took me to see them perform a sorta Christmas show in Minneapolis. I had never really listened to them before and I ended up loving it. I got super into them after that. The friend passed away not long after that show, so hearing them now always makes me think of her. poo poo sucks, man.

This one hurts really bad. What a great person and what a great band. I saw them live in Milwaukee touring for The Great Destroyer and it was one of my favorite shows I've ever been to. There's literally no time when I wouldn't enjoy listening to Laser Beam or the demo version of Will the Night, among many others. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gXjHqmdNRBE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jNaf3iXibJ4

Extra row of tits posted:What did she do to anger the lord so he killed her like this? poo poo, I just realized that Low is probably the band, I have paid to see at a venue, the most times. First time was at their first European tour back in 1994 or 1995, promoting I Could Live In Hope. Some local band was warming up, and we came to see them, stayed for Low and were hooked. I think the entrance fee was something equivalent to like $5 or so at a really small venue. Last time I saw them was back in May together with my brother-in-law who was blown away, as he didn't know what to expect. At a later gig, at another small venue, some hecklers in the back of the room complained that the music was loving boring. The band cut the concert short and left. Then came out a bit later but didn't want to finish their set. They then asked the crowd what they wanted to hear. I had recently bought the Transmission EP so I yelled "Transmission" and gently caress if they didn't play it, along with 2-3 other tracks people asked for. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZYIotwnhfRo

Low also had a really cool label called Chairkickers and I wouldn't know about Kid Dakota if it wasn't for them. If you like Low, you might like Kid Dakota. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=APZxAjTJ2Uw I always wanted to take a trip to Duluth in the early 00's cuz it seemed like such a great scene.

kntfkr posted:i couldn't see them through the countless columns of terminal five, world's worst venue It really is. Every show I've ever been to, large venue to small across the entire globe - none of them hold a candle to how bad the two shows I've seen at terminal 5 are. Bad sound, worst layout. I liked low I'm going to listen to them a lot tomorrow.
