Just picked this up yesterday. Tonight I consecrated my Eviscerator and got a 17% movement speed bonus whenever I rev the engine. This game rules.

What is the utility of using a chainaxe instead of an eviscerator? I am a left branch to middle bottom "chainsaw freak" Zealot and I like the sound of chain axes but I don't know that another weapon compares to the Eviscerator for pure chainsawing. I pair it with a revolver for things outside of chainsaw range and it is easily in the top three good-feeling game revolvers I have ever used.

Are there other weapon types I should explore? There is a sledge hammer but it doesn't have a chainsaw motor in it so I am skeptical.

e: Just remembered about the boltgun.

What are people finding to work best on zealot?

This has been what I'm making.

I want to saw things in half but also survive when things don't work. I can chainsaw most elite things with a revved eviscerator on level 4 but I can also stand in front of a horde and hold the whole line on my own. I have two +wound curios so when I am close to death I have a ton of damage reduction and sweeping a hords with defense attack keeps replenishing toughness. I've been liking a Boltgun for shooting snipers and gunners and chunking a crowd when I need some space.

I really like how reload animations are handled in this game. It's a minor detail but the way there seem to be breakpoints in a reload is really clever. Like the boltgun detaches the magazine and then you insert a new one and charge the action, and its a long animation, but if you need to run and interrupt the reload it isn't playing the whole thing from the start again, you resume from the last breakpoint. I haven't seen a FPS do that before and I just want to post about how clever it is.

e: Real question but what does Stamina actually do if you can keep running while its empty? Is it just for blocking? Is there a glossary for some of the mechanics, like Impact Damage or whatever else?

I've got two +1 Wound curios, one has +10% stamina regen on it. On a many wounds Zealot with all the toughness damage reduction and 50% reduction breakpoints, is a +2 Stamina with another 10% stamina regen a better value add than +16% health with a +3% health feature? It makes a difference of 220ish health with lots of stamina or a 250ish health with normal stamina build. I'm still feeling out the impact of running out of stamina compared to other resources, some more experienced insight is helpful to me. I have lots of toughness and can sustain it pretty consistently to get more value out of my health pool.

As a brand new player I feel like leveling isn't really a huge problem. My friend and I mashed Quickplay and I hit level 30 after 27 successful missions and a couple failures with the quickplay XP bonus. It didn't feel like much of a grind.

I also wonder if that 50% reduction is applied once, or once per wound threshold the hit would cross before reduction. I would love to see the math on it.

It says if damage crosses a threshold so I assumed it meant all thresholds so having wound blocks be so tiny meant every big or medium hit gets 50% reduction. Martyr Priest can survive anything.

What is the use case for a braced autogun vs one with normal ADS? Is it just like a more stable hipfire? It seems weird to have two hipfires but there's gotta be something more to it.

Horizontal spread, auto-aim, higher base DPS. Braced Autoguns are more short-mid range weapons and aren't nearly as flexible as Infantry autoguns as a result, but they can still pop Snipers if you're willing to spend a few bullets spraying to land the hit.

So they're built for more crowd clearing hordes, like a gun version of a sweeping melee arc?

Do the Devil Claw swords do extra damage on headshots? I was noodling with some of the Emperor's Gifts and noticed they seemed to pop heads off in one swing, am I imagining that?

Is Bloodthirsty a good blessing? I looked up how it worked but all the info was prepatch. Would a good use case for a clump of elites be like, rev, chastise, saw, get bloodthirsty crit, rev, saw, get bloodthirsty crit, rev, saw? It seems like you just get the one crit but revving tends to just kill most elites anyways, is it meant to be used to sustain a feedback loop?

Reiley

The Zealot routes seem to be "hit many things from the front", "make your friends better at hitting things" or "hit one big thing from behind", which is a fair degree of variety for a melee-centric class.

Magitek posted:

Bloodthirsty is best either when you're faced with a mixed horde of elites and non-elites, or a hyperdense horde of non-elites. In both cases you'll be killing nonelites with every swing and making effective use of the extra crit damage on further targets. To that end it's a blessing that's much more effective on some weapons compared to others. On a single-target chain weapon or a Deimos force sword its use is limited to the fairly niche scenario you described. On the Illisi force sword however, it's fantastic. Every special will cut through a dozen poxwalkers while delivering consistent crits to any ragers, maulers or specials in the mix.

It popped on my Eviscerator, which I frequently do sweep through mixed hordes with using heavy > light > blockswing combos. So I understand right, do I need to rev it to proc it? Does the shredding from heavy swings count for activation?

An update on my new sword:

Took it out on a Heresy run and it feels like it carves up big swarms easier. Am I right to think the Wrath cleave damage gets passed on to new targets until something doesn't die from the swing, and that this applies to the crit swing from Bloodthirsty? Is there a cap on how many dudes I can cleave? This felt great to use.

How do other Zealots feel about the fire grenade? I can detour my build to pick it up instead of stun grenades if I drop Redoubled Zeal, trying it out in the meat grinder it seems pretty strong.

It's probably the worst of the three options because of the (initially) confusing SFX, especially if there's a whole bunch of bombers nearby while you're trying to save a teammate. Mostly I only pick it if I'm short on talent points and am going for the middle aura (which I often do to be fair because I'm addicted to the reload perk + revolver :v:)

It's still pretty decent though as long as you throw it in advance; it basically kills everything except Crushers fairly quickly if you actually fight in the flames yourself. It's just lacking the utility value that stun grenades or even the throwing daggers have.

Thanks for the insight, I may redouble my zeal yet.

I like to play like I am a wall between my team and danger and our group has scraped up many main character zealots when they don't immediately quit out, but last night we teamed with a flamer/fire grenade zealot who made it a nice time managing big hordes and supporting us with chants. I learned that friendly flames are Cooler Ranch compared to heretical Nacho Cheesier fire.

Someone mentioned there not being variety in the Zealot tree so I figured that guy is worth mentioning. He had the white DLC robes and skull mask and we thought he looked like a dental hygenist at first but then he worked this all-fire support build and we came to appreciate him quickly.

edit: my evis is too lewd for imgur

So funny story, I actually came here with a similar sword and a similar question.

I put Wrath on over Momentum since I felt tanky enough. I have the infested/unyielding damage skill, I'm curious what the best thing to replace the +20% damage perk is. Is it ideal to double stack bonuses on Unyielding to be stronger against big guys? Or +10% vs Specialists for high value targets? Also, does the Zealot backstab trait count as a Weak Spot? In practice so far this thing has been a crowd shredder, making the crit sound constantly and cutting through mixed hordes.

Just tried that bleed crit chorus setup. Once the loop gets going it felt really strong. I'd been using Chastise to give myself a boost of Toughness but Chorus gives even more. I had to choose between +20% damage to unyielding and infested or +10% sprint speed to afford it, I am leaning towards the sprint speed for good mobility since the crit loop feels like it's making up for that 20% damage perk.

e: Does Chorus toughness bonus stack with toughness from Veteran shout?

Been trying Chorus more and it feels like its strong but without team coordination it feels hard to capitalize on, and when I try to use it in pubs it feels like I'm not accomplishing anything with it. Chastise with Redoubled Zeal is free instant health that's always there if you need it, and feels more actionable if you're grouped with a team of main characters.
