I avoided this game for the past year until it seemed Good. Now it seems Good and I have 3 fresh 30s and MANY questions. It’s extremely hard to look poo poo up because tons of articles and Reddit posts are from launch or early in the game’s lifecycle when there was a lot of hype for it, and everything has since changed. So, questions. No dumb “what is the best build” questions don’t worry.

1) what is the best method for obtaining endgame weapons? I am guessing:
-check armoury exchange for well-rolled (as close to 80 as possible on individual important mods and base rank close to 380), upgrade and cross fingers for 2/4 usable mods
-grind dockets and spend them on brunt’s poo poo looking for above
-save up Melkbucks looking for items with good blessings so you can rip them and put them onto your good base

2) same question but for curios. I’m guessing similar approach but simpler because smaller and more deterministic mod pool. For example I found a 21% health blue curio which I can now upgrade to gold and try to get at least one good perk and then replace the others.

3) what are some fun, unique playstyles / builds you guys have created with your own talent trees and weapons? Feel free to share games lantern trees. So far I have played a veteran generalist (VOC, lots of ranged damage, juicy melee dmg / attack speed / crit chance with weapons specialist) with revolver and power sword, psyker with venting shriek and brain burst, and an exclusively melee spec Ogryn.

4) what are some excellent melee and ranged weapon options for each class? Like I’m aware the power sword w/ power cycler IV is “meta” for veteran. What are some other options? I would like this for each class because the internet is filled with 12 month old Reddit posts and AI generated TOP TEN DARKTIDE WEAPONS articles and I’d like to avoid the obvious traps. I’m sure most weapons are viable. Strongly prefer weapons that deal with hordes well so fast attacking and/or horizontal. (Ogryn shovel mk5 is amazing.)

5) are there any plans to introduce new factions to the game like T’au, Tyranid, Orks, Necrons, etc? How about new mission types? New enemy types if the only faction will be chaos?

6) now that the game Doesn’t Suck and Fatshark feels it has built some goodwill in its fanbase, should we expect some paid DLC with badass content anytime in the near future, like VT2 with the new content/classes/weapons DLCs?

7) any traps for each class? For example, Ogryn has a number of crit-related stuff on its tree (mostly the right side), but Reddit tells me that stuff generally sucks because Ogryn has dismal crit chance across both the character and the weapons. Meanwhile I saw someone upthread talking about random specific Zealot weapons having higher crit chance which I wouldn’t know anything about. I’m guessing it’s in the weapon description but god drat there are a lot of weapons and I can’t see info on them without crafting it or having it be in the armoury exchange. I want to try stuff out but it sounds like there’s everything from passives that don’t work to passives that just loving suck (like Unstoppable that increases ogryn toughness gained by 10%, so it goes from 5% to 5.5%). I found the Ogrynomicon and the Atheneum extraordinarily helpful in assessing Ogryn and Psyker skills and weapons, but nothing like that seems to exist for Zealot and Veteran.

8) how does the move from heresy to damnation go? Is damnation the same thing as auric damnation? Heresy is fun but damnation just seems so loving dense, like how do you fight your way through 15 crushers and 12 maulers simultaneously. Krak grenades, massive crit chance and damage, rending?

9) favorite personalities for each class? Thinking about rerolling my good boy veteran to male cutthroat so I can yell things.

Thanks in advance for any answers goons!

Thanks for the answers everyone and don’t worry about giving me “ogryn is more than tank” and “zealot is more than a dps crit monkey” type answers, I’ve played enough to understand the basics. Just looking for help with my knowledgeable goons on crafting, interesting playstyles, and the future of darktide.

So where do you guys see all this info like "this weapon has an inherently high critical damage bonus" etc? I'm really enjoying my Mk IVe crusher on my zealot but I have a few crit passives (like melee critical hits reduce combat ability cooldown by 1.5s, critical hits count toward triggeirng fury, etc.) and wondering if this an inefficient focus since I've heard the crusher isn't very crit-friendly.

anyone else loving hate the hunting grounds mission modifier? It is lethal as gently caress, it's like throwing several dozen additional disabler enemies at you per mission + they come in groups.

Need some opinions/ranting on the veteran chainsword options, I ran power swords because It's Meta but Im trying out a chainsword with a high finesse roll + weapons specialist and am just in love with how fast it attacks with melee specialist active.

I prefer horde clear and mobility, I have my revolver/plasma gun for head clicking on elites.
MK IV or MK XIIIg?
Preferred blessings / perks?
Thoughts on these vs power sword w/ power cycler IV?

How are the kantreal lasguns? I enjoy the revolver and plasma gun but sometimes it’s just really fun to roleplay as a guardsman grunt with a lasgun and a chainsword and a dream. I have little experience with the kantreals except people saying the 12 is good and ammo efficient.

I decided to try out the 12 in the Psykanium and I don't think the fire rate is for me. The 44% stability roll wasn't doing it any favors either, but if Im shooting that slowly I like to do more than 30 damage to carapace. Revolvers and plasma guns really gently caress up the other guns in this game, it's hard to go from weapons with no target weaknesses to weapons with very obvious target weaknesses. Im trying out the Columnus instead. Crafted a really good (base stats) one at Brunt and I like the weapon dynamics. I'll just have to keep my Krak grenades close.

Any thoughts on Focus Target vs Weapons Specialist? Basically I can take Focus Target with a number of good generalist passives (Iron Will, Bring it Down, etc. to help with bosses and crushers) or I can spread those passives out into some really good melee-focused stuff (close quarters killzone, desperado, trench fighter, plus the attack speed on weapons specialist is incredible with a finesse weapon) to add more versatility to my kit.

How would you guys modify this from here? If I'm reading Bloodthirsty right, you get a +100% critical hit chance after killing someone with a revved attack. Reddit says it's for literally 3 seconds, which is fine sometimes, but not nearly as useful as the non-limited duration you would assume from the description. Obviously this is good for like, chaining revved attacks into stunned/distracted ragers or something but is there a better blessing I should be going for? If the blessings are fine Ill probably change unarmoured to 20% vs unyielding.

Advice please, swap out Bloodthirsty for T3 Rampage or T3 Rev It Up? None of the other blessings seem good or relevant. If Bloodthirsty is good I'll keep it and reroll unarmoured to Unyielding as my ranged weapon is for Flak enemies.

Hammerblow/ Skullcrusher is pretty much the only two choices for blessings, all the rest kinda suck. As for perks, the usual flak/maniac, but unyielding and carapace are both fine.

With the +Impact zealot talent in the middle tree it lets you stunlock ragers with light swings, even if they have their hyper armor on.

I have Trauma IV on this random 380 crusher I rolled, is that essentially interchangeable with Hammerblow or is it strictly shittier? I had assumed it was the same but now re-reading it, "on Repeated Hit" vs "Hit" is probably much more finicky to trigger. If I'm reading it right, at most it triggers every other hit, and even then, it has to be every other hit on at least one repeated target?

Trying out the different Psyker staves. What are y'all's thoughts on them?

I'm really enjoying the Equinox MK3 but obviously have to be very careful to not snatch melee kills out from the melee specialists (since they need it for toughness). I want to try the fire spec but Blazing Spirit seems obnoxiously hard to get.

Voidstrike is pretty cool but haven't tried it much. Nomanus is probably the most reliable for me but I also find it pretty underwhelming on the charged shot damage. And that leaves the flamer Rifthaven which is... not my playstyle.

Question goons, how do empowered psionics and kinetic resonance play together?

Let's say we get mobbed by crushers or a plague ogryn and I want to rip out as many BRs as quickly as possible - if I pop my Combat Ability (telekine shield in this case), is the -75% cast time reduction from kinetic resonance stacking with the empowered psionics charges and using up charges for each at the same time (bad) or are they used sequentially so I get a total of 7 quick uses of BR (good)?

What are y'alls' thoughts on fire trauma builds? I'm really enjoying mine but wonder if I'm missing some obvious breakpoints or whatever. I'm also curious if the Fire Trauma staff build is just a Purgatus with extra steps, should I be using that instead if I want to torch everything?

The Atheneum guide makes a big deal out of rare rolls and blessings etc. Here's my full gear and talents: https://darktide.gameslantern.com/builds/9b76b679-f644-476e-bbb1-64c73457b83b/fire-trauma-4

quote:

There are two ways to build a Trauma. The easier way is to build a Flurry Trauma, however, it does not quite compete the versatility and damage output of the Fire Trauma. Unfortunately, Fire Trauma requires a very specific roll in order to work properly, therefore, it is very hard to reach. In addition, playing with Fire Trauma effectively does require mastering the Quell Cancel tech.

Fire Trauma
Blessings Blazing Spirit + Warp Nexus
Perks Crit Chance 4% or 5%, Flak
Stats 1. Blast Radius 78-80%, Charge Rate 78-80%
2. Quell Speed
3. Damage, Warp Resistance

This is my staff. Obviously not quite there on the charge rate OR blast radius but seems very close. I'm also not sure what the Quell Cancel tech is - I assume it's where you R2 blast - tap quell - R2 blast?

ANOTHER question, the recommended Fire Trauma build in Atheneum uses the 2x charge stun shield instead of the spherical shield, I find the QOL on the spherical shield to be much better with the toughness regen and omnidirectional placement. Im guessing the stun shield has a higher skill ceiling and requires you to place it more effectively but can be super impactful.

Even before that though, and before Fatshark buffed crafting mat drops on higher difficulties, I still upgraded to orange after trying just to blue for some weapons. My experiences with the former were just so much better anecdotally that I never went back.

Protip: if you're just blessing hunting make sure you only upgrade 310 rating or less whites, it's significantly cheaper over the long run.

I'll do orange for my next few. That's interesting you say that last part though, reddit seems to be full of people convinced that higher base weapon ratings mean higher odds of higher tier blessings as you upgrade. Nobody really knows, but lots of people are convinced. Is that a thing?

Im gonna steal this idea (minus the revive talent).

1. Is damage resistance (gunner/sniper) only for health, or does it apply to dmg taken to toughness as well? Easy swap for revive speed if health only.

2. Is it cheesy as gently caress running power sword + plasma gun or just regular cheesy? I feel like such a generic dude running PS+PG with voice of command and krak grenades lol.

3. What would you run instead of dmg vs Maniacs here, if anything?

4. What are everyone's preferred blessings on the Columnus Mk V? Besides the obvious Dumdum. Deathspitter vs Fire Frenzy vs ... terrifying barrage? Im reaching here.

I run Chain Sword + Plasma, PS is nice but way better with weapon spec side for the extra attack speed and all you need your melee for is managing a horde and mutants. and Rampage single handedly makes Chain Sword good for dealing with hordes so the secondary choice of blessing is up to you. Rev It Up! is low key actually really good, especially combined with the Revive talent for super sonic speeds. Welcome to the glory of Gloryhunter though, it's nice and tanky down here. I will agree with the others though, you can use whatever melee you want with Plasma, though really should be more focused on horde clear.

I don't really struggle with hordes for the above reason you mentioned (I run a pretty good finesse roll power sword with weapon spec and trench fighter) and I like the Krak grenade for instantly saving my forever-queueing double zealot buddies from the retinue of crushers and maulers, but I'll think about rolling frags.

Kraks kill one ogryn or mauler real good, and sometimes more than one if they stack inside each other. Do okay damage to monsters. Wow! Guess what also does that but has more than two shots box you pick up? Plasma.

It's no contest imo. Maybe one your buddies should roll with a crusher though and then they can deal with their own crusher/mauler problems.

Note that I am looking for changes to this build while keeping it fundamentally a fire trauma equinox build, everything else Im open to changing.

Now that I've asked above, let me hear some of your favorite psyker loadouts: melee, weapon, blitz, ability, and keystone.

The only keystone I'm absolutely not touching is Disrupt Destiny, I'm sure the benefits are strong but goddamn is it annoying to keep those stacks up and perpetually monitor them.
