Poland have looked not great so far and have mostly been bailed out by Szczęsny's heroics, so clearly they're going to frustrate the French into a dire 0-0 draw and then win on penalties. Then, the Euros runner-ups and reigning World Cup 4th-place team with the worst national anthem take on the reigning AFCON champions, the Lions of Teranga. Yes, it's a lions vs. lions showdown. England are England and Senegal are without their talisman and star, Sadio Mane (RIP), so clearly Senegal are going to fight, and win, to make him proud, by playing out a dire 0-0 draw and then winning on penalties. First match kicks off in ninety minutes plus seven minutes injury time.

You can get technical about it and there are edge cases where that explanation isn't technically true (for example, technically it's the second last defender that you need to be behind, but that's because the goalkeeper counts as the last defender, which means there are occasionally phases of play when the goalkeeper is ahead of another defender and so the goalkeeper isn't the last defender anymore, and so on), but 90% of the time that's all it is.

Well, FIFA have replace Barton’s poorly performing AR2 with her. This is kind of a shocker. Ever since trios started, you lived and died as a team. Good referees were sent home because of poor performances by the AR. Here, Barton is saved because they opted to make a switch. Kathryn Nesbitt may be the first World Cup on field official to make her debut on a knockout game. So, fun little addition to this game.
