Conflicted about this one. Would like to see Croatia grind their way to another final but as much as we make fun of him for being a weird train obsessed footballing savant it would be nice for Messi to finally win the big one (assuming they can get past Morocco in the final)

If we know two things about Argentina and referees at the world cup, it's that 1) They really prefer UEFA referees, and 2) they REALLY love Italian referees. They saw an Italian in 2006, in 2010, in 2014 (saw him 3 times), not in 2018, and now are seeing Orsato a second time. It's funny how that works out. Orsato worked the opening match of the World Cup on November 20th, then worked Argentina Mexico on November 26th, and has sat idle until now. I have to figure that's close to a modern record in terms of days just sitting around waiting. At 47 years old, this is his last major tournament and he gets to end it with a big honor. He has worked the Italian Cup final 3 times and did the Champions League final in 2020 where Bayern beat PSG 1-0. He also was at Euro 2020, doing England Croatia and Spain Poland in the Group Stages before finishing with Sweden Ukraine in the Round of 16. He sent off Pogba in that one Manchester United vs PSG match that had a bunch of cards. IDK, I don't watch much Serie A so Italian goons can probably fill in more, but when I have seen him he has been solid. He's had a good tournament thus far and so this is his reward for that. He's partnered with Irrati who was his VAR in the other two matches. So far, his lone VAR intervention was to rule out Ecuador's opening goal in the first match of the tournament, a decision made by SAOT that didn't give the viewing public an image for like 15 minutes which was a big problem.
