I work in environmental sciences- marine, specifically -it's shockingly had the opposite effect on my outlook of the future than I think most people would expect. Yes, obviously poo poo is Bad with a capital B, but you get to see the active, large-scale efforts being made to help curb (or, rather, mitigate) climate change effects on a daily basis. It helps dull the edge of despair at the inevitable collapse of the modern world. We're all in for a poo poo show, but it's nice to see the metaphorical icebergs ahead of time, while also knowing there are some even bigger ones that are actively being steered away from.

Edit: Kind of missed making my point. This is all to say that while you'd have to be insane to be in denial of a serious and grave decline in our collective qualities of life in the immediate future, there are far more people on the planet that care than that don't, and massive efforts ARE being made to shield everyone and everything as best as possible. It's not the total freefall into extinction that I think most folks are (understandably) terrified of.
