Crossposting today's comics from the old thread, with bonus blurbs:

2018 Spiderman is currently on the last arc before the strip got cancelled(this was fairly soon after Stan Lee died, and speculation in the dedicated Newspaper Spiderman thread is that the strip only survived so long because Stan liked it)

1980 comics

80s NSM is currently on another round of Carole(this was before Peter married MJ) being menaced by a cult she used to be a part of.

80s RM is...honestly this arc has dragged on so long that I've mostly stopped paying attention to it. When it's actually doing stuff it's notably better than modern RM, but it's still a victim of soap opera pacing.

80s MW is currently in the intro arc for Toby(who makes a lot of bad life choices) and Ian(who is just extremely the worst at all times forever).

80s Nancy is Nancy(Bushmiller flavor).

Beetle Bailey is Beetle Bailey, but not fully zombie strip yet. Notable for a lot of Men Be Horny, the occassional extremely 70s joke about race, and actually being kinda funny when the unfortunate stuff isn't getting in the way.

The Girls be shopping, or sometimes having social club meetings, or talking about dieting, or talking about vacations, or making whimsical jokes about volcanic eruptions that had happened only a month prior.

Dick Tracy is the Locher era of the comic, as stated. I used to post the modern comic as well, but it just got really boring and up its own rear end about references and not even in a fun to make fun of way.

Footrot Flats will probably result in you seeing a dead sheep eventually.

The Lockhorns is way better than its boomer-rear end premise makes it sound. Notably for actually being funny and for the artist being able to draw people using smartphones/modern tvs/etc without it looking weird(which may sound like a low bar to clear, but a shocking number of comics can't).

Computoon: Origins is me posting Computoon starting from the earliest I could find on Gocomics. Someone else posts the modern ones. It's always made exactly this much sense.

Now's probably a good time to remind the new thread that the scans I get these from don't have Sundays, which is fine for most of my strips but Spiderman has an unfortunate tendency to advance the plot on Sunday and not recap it at all Monday.

Oh good, it's not just me who thinks that aspect of this is weird. Especially since Bernice is one of the pre-college characters (wiki says she's been Luann's best friend since third grade).

I forget how this recurring bit even started in the first place, but it's Team Evans so it's safe to assume they have no idea how normal people interact with each other.

Is this an unusual translation of quarter til(#:45) or is the joke that class ends at quarter after (#:15) and the teacher is giving the wrong amount of time of purpose?

(I've never seen it worded as "quarter on" before, and my initial assumption was the latter)

I appreciate the transcriptions, although I have to say I'm surprised at how legible Fox's cursive is. I suppose when you're getting printed in the paper you need to make sure your writing isn't chickenscratch.

To be fair, there being snow on the ground and having a snow day are two very different things(unless you live in a state where snow is a freak occurance, I guess). Snow days are also a hell of a lot rarer irl than kid me had been led to believe by cartoons. :negative:

As much as I love NSM, I'm posting a billion more comics than I did when I first started posting reruns from 1999 onward, and that includes another timeline of NSM. So as much fun as it'd be to start from the 'beginning' again, I'm gonna let it rest for a bit.

An archive of Spiderman strips from 1999 to 2017 can be found in the OP of the Newspaper Spiderman thread, and strips from later years are posted throughout it(mostly by Synthbuttrange). Modern reruns are still being posted there, so check it out if you need more :spidey:

Slice of life stories are fine and Blind Alley would be fine as one, the problem is it clearly has some sort of backstory/larger plot than the slice of life stuff & it keeps teasing it but never following up on it.
