Tried out the Midnight Suns free weekend. It took a REALLY LONG TIME to get going and at the start its just the Iron Man and Dr Strange show which gets real old quick and it feels like you've just been dropped into someone's fanfic for awhile and the games systems are very VERY slowly drip fed to you so its not til like hour 2-3 that things really click and you get more interesting characters to play with and figure out how to just do stuff in the game.

Also people bothering Blade never gets old.

theres also the persistent feel like I'm going to get mugged by microtransactions somewhere though

Yeah, the really really slow build up hurt a bit but once it gets going you're running all over looking for loving mushrooms and presents and tearing up cards to merge other cards and oh god magik's injured again also weve got to find someone to bake a cake and pet the dog and the cat and

Synthbuttrange

Midnight Suns starts off with you unable to customize your character much. Just hair, skin and eye color. Every other cosmetic drops at random from chests that periodically refresh then you've got to buy them with 'gloss' which you earn from mission performance, i.e. aviators might be in the next chest you open which costs keys, then you've got to buy it to make it usable.

so you end up with a mishmash of stuff, its so stupid and amazing.

Okay im a bit late but Cruelty Squad is pretty drat good. Quickly adjusted to the eye searing art style, and I just kicked my landlord to death then jumped out a window, cushioning my 4 storey drop with a jet stream of poop before escaping the horde of police after me. Fun times.

Has anyone played Deadeye Deepfake Simulacrum ? It looks like OG Deux Ex meets the "art style" of Adventure from Atari 2600

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-MUEXGaxFDA&t=2461s
This video actually doesn't talk about the game but I like it better than what's actually on the store page. I've got it time-indexed to 41:01

"UwU-core deus ex with cruelty squad characteristics."
"This game lets you make it into whatever genre you thought this game was at first look"
"Deadeye Deepfake Simulacrum is an amazing reminder of why indie passion projects are awesome. made by one developer, its like an UWUcore mix of cruelty squad, deus ex and quadrilateral cowboy."

Reviews look really really good, it was released to early access last october as v0.6 and as of this september they're up to v0.7.5 with a load of updates inbetween but the above quoted is the only stuff I can find about Deadeye Deepfake Simulacrum here in the thread.

Deadeye Deepfake Simulacrum is cyberpunk hotline miami + console mode simulator + a severe case of internet poisoning. Try the demo, its fun enough that i bought the game.

Been playing this and its quite fun. You know those single tower defense games? Yeah this is one of those but compressed down into a nice bite sized 30 minute session for each game if you last that long. Has 6 different employees which can change up the play style a lot, lots of tower types to unlock.

Save for the logistics, it should work I think. Steam Link on my Samsung tv doesn’t require a controller to be connected to the tv, but maybe it’s different in other versions of the app.

Apparently I can just install it to try without having a link. Augh, apparently it doesnt. pressing anything on my gamepad wakes my pc again out of casting mode. :v

That’s strange, I’ve never seen Steam Link behave that way (I’ve used it to stream to a tv, iPad, and other PCs). Usually I can continue using the source pc same as usual (keyboard, mouse, controller), except I can also control it from wherever it’s being beamed to.

Huh, okay I tried it again, and it seems like it does that a few times at first then doesnt do it again? Weird. Thanks for the help tho.

There are definitely a few paths that can get quite gory but it's more existential and/or cosmic horror plus a dose of body horror, plus some heavy gaslighting.

A few paths have her ripping her arm off, one's slowly graphically burning to death and one is very combat heavy and will involve on-screen disembowelment

its a sandbox space kidnap/murder/heist game. It's limited as much as your imagination is. Also your friends and their gear can turn up in your game.

Play the game anyway you want. Infiltrate the enemy ship and stealth your way through. Murder everyone on board in a bloody gunfight. Start a gunfight then use a swapperporter to teleport your target to where you were, i.e. in the center of a cloud of bullets. Blow your target into space. Blow your target up with a nuke. Blow yourself into space for a quick exit. Hijack a completely unrelated ship and use it to blast your target's ship into bits. Get captured, then play as a new character while your steam friends get to point and laugh as your character shows up in their games as a rescue target. etc

Do you have to play a bunch to unlock options or something? Or a big execution wall you have to grind past? Because my experience felt the opposite, I was constantly wishing I could do something cool but feeling like the developer worked hard to keep me from utilizing any of the theoretical options I might have that weren't carefully executing some sort of intended puzzle solution. Everything else was just suicide and throwing away what little progress I made.

Maybe not having any friends that played it hurt? Is the social direct a big deal?

Sorry for not replying sooner. Its pretty much just finding gear as you go. The more stations you unlock the better gear you can buy or steal basically, and the more hurdles you'll have in your way. I dont think not having friends that played it hurts that much, you'll just find their corpses and whatever weapons and gear they'd have so it's a nice bonus but nothing you couldnt earn yourself.

Home sweet home.

So I've kinda been sucked into OBENSEUER
https://store.steampowered.com/app/951240/Obenseuer/

What is it? Well...

If you're into bleak urban realism, exploration, breaking and entering, farming legal and illegal crops, crafting, being the worlds best/worst landlord your pick, it might be for you.

My current character is an alcohol mushroom addicted kleptomaniac grandma scurrying all over the place rooting through trash with an axe and a sledgehammer in each hand breaking into things she shouldnt be breaking into. So far shes found a dead body, fallen into the river, practiced a lot of lockpicking, stolen several solid silver bars, been sweating out her addictions in the sauna and keeping a giant bin of stolen goods labeled ‘construction supplies’. I've started getting a derelict tenement (its surrounded by biohazard signs for some reason) into shape for people to move into. Its pretty awful yet compelling?

Its still in early access, but the devs (who also did INFRA) are getting back into it after a little hiatus and are making quick progress on the game. It currently spans one very dense city block but there's a large amount planned to be added to the game.

Star Traders Frontiers? Whatever you like basically. Follow questlines. Trade stuff. Take on raiders, or do raiding yourself. Explore planets. Courier stuff/people around. Make yourself a ridiculous ship / crew. Anything you want.

The starting questline should introduce you to a whole bunch of activities you can do.

Oblivion was really disappointing after Morrowind. Sure everything looked more polished and some of the jank was filed off. But they also crippled the amazing magic systems and had a boring generic looking setting.
