Ah, so the reason why serious Sam 4 was mid was because all of croteams effort was put into the Talos principle 2. Good

There’s something incredibly cozy about Tomb Raider 1-3 that is only comparable to Doom 1 & 2.

ninjoatse.cx posted:A whole bunch of assassin's creed games are on sale on steam. Which ones are good and don't have long lovely openings. I never made it to the gameplay loop in syndicate and AC3 because I couldn't give a gently caress about whatever slow walking story they were trying to jam down my throat. Black Flag is cheap and very chill fun. Unfortunately it has a pretty long intro from what I can remember, and the constant escort and tailing missions suck. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, is “Content: The Game.” It’s… Pretty good content though! It’s a nice light 8 out of 10 experience for hours upon hours upon hours upon hours. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is more of the same as Odyssey.

Far Cry 4 is pretty good, feels comparatively samey to Far Cry 3 but you probably won’t notice if you’ve played the two ten years separate from each other. It feels “authored” in a way that Ubisoft games don’t feel anymore. I’d say it’s a better game than Far Cry 3, technically. Can’t really get it to work right on the Steam Deck. Far Cry: Primal is underrated. It’s still very much like Far Cry 3 & 4 except you don’t have any guns (a cool double bow tho…), but the setting is cool and I actually really enjoyed the story. Also, you get to collect pets! Far Cry 5 is slop. Slop for the content troth. But it’s really fun slop. They knew how to make the slop engaging enough that you’re guaranteed to have 8.4/10 kinda fun for hours and hours. It’s the Assassin Creed’s Odyssey of the Far Cry games. Far Cry: New Dawn, well, I played this before 5 because I was starving for a Fallout style game, and this game’s combat tried to be more RPG-y with it’s health bars and numbers, but New Dawn is basically Far Cry 5 but less. Far Cry 6 is badly designed slop. Feels like an AI designed it. Unbalanced, repetitious, thoughtless. Automata 10 Pack fucked around with this message at 21:13 on Feb 17, 2024 |

Also Far Cry: New Dawn is a continuation of 5’s story and it is revealed that the protagonist of Far Cry 5 was tortured and brainwashed by the bad guy into a Casey Jones looking dude that becomes one of your support buddies. And the bad guy does reappear. If you want closure for whatever reason. Automata 10 Pack fucked around with this message at 00:56 on Feb 18, 2024 |

Also you’re not forced to engage in the final progression mission of the area you’re in. They spare you of the sleepy bullet with that one.

So I played Chris Whitehead's (The Sonic Mania guy) new game Penny's Big Breakaway https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1hAgpRYM2M8 It oozes a ton of that 90s early 3D Sega charm. However it's not clicking with me yet. There's an issue with a lot of the "Sonic-like" games that come out, where they basically pull a half-measure in their tribute and give you a platformer that's half-sonic and half something else, and that "something else" loving suuuuuuuuuuucks. So Penny has SOME mobility skills and the ability to zip around sometimes, but they're basically navigating Super Mario 3D Land style stages and their normal walking speed is slow. The art style is great, but the simple textures and fixed camera leads to situations where you don't have a good grasp on where the character is on the z-axis of your view. The penguin guard mechanic is very annoying and discourages the player from exploring the zones they occupy. Maybe it'll click with me later, I heard some people saying once you master the move set you can zip through the levels very quickly, and it is an interesting move set and that aesthetic is pretty darn nice. bought played balatro all morning and I might be done with it, stumbled into a really killer deck build and got to the final “boss” and now it feels like the runs are strictly about luck and grinding for the joker cards that’ll get you past the “wall”

Volte posted:My Balatro runs usually either die in the first ante because I get incredibly unlucky trying to grind out straights or flushes after skipping the first two blinds, or on the 8th ante boss because I made a late-stage blunder trying to swap out jokers for scaling. My number one piece of advice is to never pass on tarot cards, if you can destroy or replace cards to make one or two suits dominate, there are a lot of ways to exploit that, and steel cards are good to have on hand too. hey thread. today I remembered about soma, and how good it was. and how one part of it was when you discovered the AI was attacking people and plugging them into some weird, hallucinatory false reality while it barely kept them alive in the real world. and while you experience it for a disorienting five seconds, I imagine the experience beyond that is like living inside a chatgdp image. anyways, soma is still one of the best games of the 2010s and is probably one of my favorite stories of that era, up there with disco elysium. play it if you can.

Never got the “pretentiousness” of it but I reached what I thought was the end and left happy. it just felt like a nice vibey island filled with good puzzles and cool art. it got me to watch “nostalgia”!

I just pretend that the rest of the team made the witness while he peed in jars or whatever edit: jonathan blow is such a chud now that the witness is still not on the switch even through it was ported to the shield, which had the same gpu!!!! double edit: also I gushed about soma earlier and now it’s $4.49 ok steam’s “lovecraftian” (lol what?) sale. finishing that game was also like finishing a book, but a book that made you sad and quiet at the end and unable to sleep until 3:00am. god, games use to be good Automata 10 Pack fucked around with this message at 06:07 on Apr 5, 2024 |
