What's the best thing in the Spike Chunsoft sale to get if I've never really played a VN before? Somnium looks quite interesting.

It depends on your preferences:
  • Do you like anime antics or tolerate it?
  • Do you like escape rooms? How hard do you like your puzzles?
  • How much sex appeal or fanservice do you want in your games?
  • etc.

I guess I'm mainly after a compelling story with meaningful interactivity and something that will run nicely for many hours on the steam deck.
Do you like anime antics or tolerate it?
I can tolerate anime antics to an extent.
Do you like escape rooms? How hard do you like your puzzles?
Puzzles can be pretty challenging. I'm not enamoured with the concept of escape rooms so probably wouldn't play something all about them.
How much sex appeal or fanservice do you want in your games?
Ideally it'd be something I could play without getting awkward questions if witnessed on public transport.

Based on your answers, I cannot recommend any of Spike Chunsoft games that I have played. I recommend against the Zero Escape series since those are escape rooms. I would also not recommend Danganronpa since that goes hard in anime antics with the occasional fanservice. Somnium Files also has escape rooms in "dreams" with anime antics and the occasional fan service; also, steam page says that it is "Unsupported" on steam deck.

In general, I am not sure if I can recommend visual novels in general since most VNs lean in hard into one of those areas (anime, escape room, fanservice) and/or have minimal interactivity (aside from the violent/horror ones).

That's a pretty interesting bundle in that there probably isn't a single person in the world that doesn't have one of HK, Bloodstained, and Blasphemous that doesn't also have the other two. Or maybe like 90% all three and 99.9% two of three.

edit: and Rain World owners absolutely have all three

I have HK but not the other two. Given that I mostly purchase games on steep discounts, I have not had a chance to get the latter two.

How low spec?

Otherwise, Magicka and Portal 2 can run pretty well on old systems while having multiplayer.

https://www.verifythis.com/article/...5e-88f59d0be563

Has anyone cashed in on this?

https://www.masonllp.com/case/valve-mass-arbitration/

Looking at their blog, last "four years" encompasses four years starting from January 28, 2017. (I could be wrong here.) It is not very clear that the 30-60% of what we purchased from steam is what we are estimated to get back, or we get back estimated 30-60% return after taking away 40% of it for the firm.

That being said, supposedly, anyone who made a direct purchase on Steam between January 28, 2017 and January 28, 2021 was paying more than they should have.

Max Wilco posted:

Do you think it's worth pursuing then?

That is up you and how much your purchase history since 2017 is worth. Overall, I do not believe there is anything to lose aside from providing personal information to the firm.

Max Wilco posted:

Thing I ask myself though, is if I get that money back, and I don't just put it in savings, is it stupid of me to use it to buy games on Steam?

That is also up to you. If the arbitration works out for you, that would mean you have been charged extra between 2017 and 2021. Was that extra charge worth it? Did you pay all those games to satisfaction? Would putting that money in a high-yield saving account, low-cost index fund, bond, etc. be more beneficial given your time horizon and goals?

I'm looking for suggestions for difficult multiplayer games that absolutely require your teammate to survive. I'm trying to come up with a way to teach teamwork between me and a friend of mine. I was thinking maybe a tactical shooter ala Ghost Recon Wildlands, any Battle Royale, maybe running the ranked doubles playlist on Halo 3, or maybe an RTS. Any suggestions?

It is not multiplayer in the sense of PVP, but you could play It Takes Two and Portal 2 Co-Op. These games are great teamwork game. I think there are multiple great teamwork games that are PVE.
