OH MAN! The Saltburn kid is the one from The Killing of a Sacred Deer! He's been the creepy, nervous but self-assured whirlwind of destruction for ages! And now I'm so angry at Barry Keoghan for making usually-plucky Raffey Cassidy into a somewhat dislikeable, lovestruck teenager in that film. Maybe it's to her credit that her character would probably be outright dislikeable if near anyone else played the role. And I mean Keoghan didn't write the script but still I can't get over it now.

I know there are fine examples of that shot but none are coming to me in regard to film proper. But the one at the end of that episode of True Detective where they introduce Reggie Ledoux gets top marks. What about favourite pre-title sequences? Nobody say The Dark Knight. I mean yeah it's terrific it might even be up there with the best but we all know that already!

Pre title gets you those films that won’t actually drop the title like 20-30 mins or more. So that includes films like the Departed, RRR, and Drive My Car (40 mins). Then there’s fun credits like Army of the Dead. From this year, Across the Spiderverse has a fantastic Spider Gwen short of sorts all before the title.

the Coens are really pre-title all stars. Raising Arizona, A Serious Man, and Miller's Crossing are three all timers.

If I remember rightly, The Dark Knight doesn’t actually drop its title until the start of the closing credits, so that’s another reason not to choose it - it’s cheating to pick an entire film.

Favorite Pre title sequence for me will always be casino Royale. It’s just so badass. It’s a perfect marriage of old school spy banter nonsense mixed with modern grit and violence.

Not to mention a rhino that almost derailed a train and the fact that the masai and the british had had a bloody conflict in the area where the railway was being built.

That’s gotta be old. Both RRR and Drive My Car take at least 40 minutes to get to a title. Plus as another said, the dark knight goes the entire film before a title.

I don't know if there was anything behind the the part that showed the inconceivably wealthy evil mastermind's domestic situation to be an alcoholic mess, if it was meant to show how that Bond's love interest is the way she is because of that in addition to being the daughter of an international villian, or something, but it played reaaally well.

With North By Northwest they didn't have permission to shoot outside the UN so they just set up a camera in a van across the street and had Cary Grant just kinda walk up the stairs and there are definitely a few people who turn around when they recognize him.

Just finished Oppenheimer. Not sure it even breaks into my top 10. Christopher Nolan is not what I’d call a subtle director. My wife felt like she was watching a very long trailer.

A common complaint, but not one I had with this particular Nolan. As always I guess it comes down to the setup whether theatre or home, and I guess Nolan doesn't leave much margin for error

Oppenheimer currently has the most awards by a huge margin, over 30 more than The Holdovers in the 2nd place. Nolan actually has a real shot at becoming an Oscar winner this time.

Cold opens are a tradition of both Batman and James Bond going way back. They're often the best parts of things. And while it also doesn't count, GI Joe: The Movie's cold opening to the theme is the best.
