I meant hinkaku which is that the YDC can choose to not promote because you fail a character test to uphold the dignity and grace of sumo. It gets levied a lot about people doing Below Honour in matches and Hakuho correctly told them all to gently caress off and they did nothing but scandals outside the ring lead to forced retirements and Abi has a bad reputation.

I think Sumo Prime Time is an acknowledgement that there is an English speaking audience out there, but taken in a vacuum it is quite weird. Imagine if it was your ONLY exposure. If you've ever been to Japan one of the most fascinating things is that despite their obsession with technology their usage of the internet is stuck in the dark ages. Japanese websites are insanely unreadable and dense looking like angelfire sites, and their adaptation to information like this is is archaic. It took years for their pro wrestling scene to recover due to just how drat difficult they made it to see the drat things and its still very hard to see a lot of it. Sumo is even worse.

Even if they made a Sumo stream for NHK English available for profit I promise it would involve some byzantine structure that would make signing up a labour requiring a FAQ guide.

I disagree with this because when Terunofuji showed up he proceeded to faceroll the entire division except for Hakuho and Takakeisho. If it was everyone it wouldn't have the kaiju wreck shop except for the other two strongest rikishi. I think it's fair to say the current banzuke is quite weak sometimes there are no one special.

I feel like the best bet overall is somehow getting Abema to offer an international paid product, they have the infrastructure, it's all technically already set up and functional, they just need to agree to take my money.

The problem is Abema looks low rent compared to the NHK English feed. It's washed out, too much information noise, and static. No cinematography, no English. The NHK feed is so much superior and its genuinely painful how hard it is to get a hold of.

It's one of those things where I understand the reasoning, but I don't agree with it. NHK has a duty to defend their copyright content, but it's getting so aggressive that it's potentially leading to a sort of new dark age of sumo fandom for viewers outside of Japan.

Copyright of what it's not like their air or sell these things and their value ceases after they occur. There's no Suno Streaming Service for old basho on demand.

Hakuho is such an undeniable king that like across all sports I think he might be the most. In basketball it's MJ v LeBron in tennis it's the big three fight in MMA it's like five different people. In sumo it's Hakuho and then really really really complex arguments of Our Culture to argue for like Raiden or Chiyonofuji.
