I'm sure humiliating himself for trump will pay off for McCarthy trump is notoriously loyal, why

So what do the MAGA Republicans want out of Kevin and rhe rest of the GOP in order to vote for him as speaker?

Nothing. They want to ruin his career just to show they can. They got everything they could want out of him. He has nothing left but his hope.

The supposed reason McCarthy backed off in 2015 is because he was having an affair with another rep

look at all the people who hate him, if that was true they'd have leaked all the info already

I don't understand are they ending one vote and immediately going into it again?

What's the plan, hope enough peoples fingers slip and they accidentally vote McCarthy?

the only alternative to another vote is adjourning, which requires a majority, and the HFC and the democrats aren't out of popcorn yet

In terms of whose 'losing' this, I expect it'll be something like a government shutdown - the public will dislike whoever they blame for causing the shutdown, and they'll be surprisingly capable of figuring whose actually holding things up.

Currently, the HFC are the ones refusing to go along with McCarthy and won't commit to actual terms to elect him, but also won't outright just admit that they don't like the look of Kevin's face. But they're also incredibly insulated from public opinion, so I could absolutely see them holding out until the 23rd before it breaks through that the American Public is blaming them for this circus.

the key is the HFC doesn't give a gently caress what the american public thinks.

they care only what the craziest 51% of republican primary voters think.

Serious question why don't you use buttons? Just have everyone vote all at once and immediately show the result on a big screen.

there are literally no rules right now, aside from "precedent" i.e. default rules from centuries ago when such a contraption would have you burned at the stake as a witch

Is #3 on this list actually an option? I thought it had to be a majority.

A majority can vote to allow the plurality winner to win

This is a stupid question, but is there any mechanism to ensure that a speaker actually honors the concessions granted while they're running to be speaker?
