I think the Ravens tagging and signing Lamar long term is a no brainer but there are at least some rumblings that he could be had in the off-season via trade.

I for one would have the utmost confidence in Ryan Poles running this franchise defining offseason.

Him or Elway? Although Rodgers has as many career rushing yards as Elway at this point and I'm not sure I'd consider him a running QB.

What selection criteria would we need to treat it seriously? All-Pro gets dismissed as being just 50 sports writers, Pro Bowl has even worse issues with voting for buddies (since you can vote for teammates) and fan votes, etc. I guess it's maybe intrinsically impossible, but the selection process here seemed pretty carefully considered.
An all players vote is no different than the preseason top 100 lists the NFL pumps out. I’d like to think the AP voting is more objective.

I feel like there should be an arbitrary cutoff of yards per game to be considered a dual threat QB. Maybe 25 yards per? In which case I guess Russell Wilson would be the longest and his wheels are already off at 33.

Carr also has to be traded by the 3rd day after the Super Bowl or his injury guarantees turn into full guarantees, which the Raiders obv won't allow. This should resolve fairly soon.

Yeah, and the possibility exists a trade partner can gently caress the Raiders by backing out. If they want to completely remove that possibility they should just release him.

Could the Raiders hold out for more draft assets by just eating the post-Super Bowl guaranteed money and trading him later?
In theory yes, but that would be hilariously bad business to fully guarantee the rest of his contract through 2025 just to squeeze an extra pick.

e: It's in Carr's best interest to facilitate a trade if he doesn't think he can beat the 3/$121m he's due, on the FA market.

The ability to get a Carr trade done now and structure the rest of your offseason around putting pieces together for him can't be understated. He also hasn't missed a game due to injury since 2017. He's never going to be a top 5 guy but he's solidly above average.

It's the exact opposite problem with the Jets. We've have multiple highly drafted busts in a row and now that the roster is in good enough shape to compete (outside QB) I think the fans would be pissed if we rolled with another rookie.

The Ravens should really consider whether they can count on Lamar enough moving forward to guarantee him $200m. Then they should trade him to the Jets if possible.

Is there a possibility the deathly silence about a trade partner for Carr is because every QB needy team has one eye on Baltimore at the moment? I know it's also largely because a huge bunch of the QB needy teams are already wrist deep in a coaching search and the deadline seems to be feb with a lot of football in between but I gotta think the QB rankings as targets would be Lamar, Brady, Carr, Jimmy G if they all end up available right?

Even the early QB trades the last few year like Alex Smith and Stafford didn’t happen until the end of January so I think teams in the market are definitely going to wait until after the Ravens season (presumably) ends to see if there’s any chance he can be had.

According to OverTheCap, after Watson’s $230m in fully guaranteed money is Russell Wilson with $124m. That’s a pretty wide chasm and I can see where the Ravens might think $133m was “good enough” and Lamar would say it’s nowhere close. That’s a tough negotiation.

Watson had ultimate leverage though and Lamar is probably a year away from having the same.

I don’t think you can’t trade 1st round picks more than 3 years out so that would limit the ask to Texans, Seattle, and Detroit.

I can’t imagine Texans or Seattle giving up that much and Detroit seems pretty happy with Goff.
