In most fantasy games I've seen, the female religious character is a cleric or priestess while the male religious character is a monk or a priest.

A good example of this is the classic arcade game, Cadash, where the priestess specializes in healing and protective magic (a real boon at the later levels) but cannot deal as much damage as the ninja, warrior, or wizard.
