Cloks posted:glad someone finally made an Al thread quote:It's subjective to say that Al Borland is not perfect, but as a fictional character, he has certain personality traits and flaws that make him relatable and human-like. For example, Al is often portrayed as being more practical and level-headed than Tim Taylor, but he also sometimes lacks confidence in his own abilities and can be a bit of a pushover.

quote:This is a theory that compares the online forum Something Awful and J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-Earth. The theory posits that the website's founder, Lowtax, is akin to Illuvitar, the creator-god of Middle-Earth, while the website's administrators are like the Valar, and the website's moderators are like the Maiar. The theory also suggests that the different types of posters on the website, such as Elves, Men, Dwarves, Hobbits, and Orcs, correspond to different types of beings in Middle-Earth. It's an interesting theory, but it should be noted that it is not factual and it's a creative interpretation that is not backed by any official statement.

Artificial Intelligence governance as a new European Union external policy tool posted:Bill Burns, in his confirmation hearing for Director of the CIA noted that technology is the central component of the competition with China. The US National Security Commission on AI took a similar position its final report mentioned China a whopping 699 times, more than any opponent or ally "We are in a competition with China and AI is at the absolute center of that competition", the Commissions members emphasised.

The man was so poor that he hadn't been able to bathe properly in years, and his smell had become overwhelming. His poor dog could no longer stand the stench and gagged up its skeleton one day. The man had never seen a skeleton before, so he took it to the market to see what he could get for it. Much to his surprise, the skeleton was worth a small fortune! With his newfound wealth, the man was finally able to purchase a rake and scrape the years of built-up dirt from his very stinky butt.

Once upon a time, there was a man who didn't have a butthole. He was an industrious fellow and was determined to figure out a way to let his body excrete waste. He experimented for months and eventually managed to train his body to respond to an impulse in his chest, which caused a thick and malodorous slurry to spew out of his thoracic cavity in a way that resembled a large stool. He was quite proud of his accomplishment and when word spread around town of the strange man who defecated from his chest, people started to treat him with reverence. Eventually, he even found himself a wife who fell in love with him for his hard work and determination. On their wedding night, she entered their bedroom to find him in a large, ceramic toilet that she had decided to get for him as a wedding present. She carefully scooped him up out of the bowl and placed him delicately in the air. To the surprise of everyone around, he began to fly around the room, eventually forming his own figure eight loops in the air until finally exploding in a ball of sparks and joy. To celebrate the moment, she began to sing an ancient song about an unusual man who was beloved despite his unusual bodily makeup. Her song echoed throughout their neighborhood and their wedding was remembered for years to come!

Homeless Friend posted:all this AI talk and crap: when will we see non poo poo paradox/civ AI? civ1 AI was alright, you'd have at least 1 civ per game that didn't completely poo poo the bed purely due to the fact that civ1 was so simple compared to its successors, an AI usually managed to avoid overcoming its difficulty bonuses

Homeless Friend posted:all this AI talk and crap: when will we see non poo poo paradox/civ AI? not sure if it's still the case, but for the first few years, eu4 had a very interesting phenomenon where the ai was very stupid alone, and still not very smart for most starting positions, but became quite smart if you released enough cores as independent countries or played with a mod where that was already done. no individual ai was any smarter, of course, but a kind of intelligence still emerged when there were enough "dumb" ais for at least one of them to reliably seize on opportunities. I still think about about that now and then.
