The Heiyue trading company sign does indeed say Heiyue trading company (the sign is basically readable as Japanese, besides that you don't pronounce 黒月 Heiyue in Japanese. In fact if you're playing the game in Japanese it just repeats the writing from the sign in the text box when you go to the door so you're left to infer the pronunciation from the fact that 公司 indicates a Chinese company)

Also the wholesale sign certainly got an improvement from previous releases, though, at least you can just use your imagination here instead of having to think that it looks almost but not quite like an actual word.

Level 1 Thief posted:

That's interesting, since the original game wasn't voiced at all. Was there any other indication or did they just assume it was fine if you misread it?

I'd have to assume it doesn't particularly matter, but maybe something will come up with the sidequest that presumably exists in that building. None of the Japanese LPs I looked at for this part had the player reading every piece of game text out loud, unfortunately.

The correct pronunciation of Heiyue is marked in the text (furigana) when talking to Grimwood, so that solves that.

Yeah, the BUSTED/WIN/LOSE graphics have indeed been there since the original release. The dealer even basically says 'ah, I busted' with the classic Japanese formation of take an English word and slap the 'to do' verb on the end of it.

The Kesalan is also called the Kesalan/Kesaran in Japanese, I'm assuming the translators couldn't think of anything good and/or didn't get the original pun.

There's a mythical Japanese creature called the kesaran-pasaran which is basically a white fluff ball which is presumably related - the Japanese monster description explains that the swimming through the air is accomplished by waving its body hairs (though they look more like solid fins in the game), but, that doesn't explain what the name has to do with leeches.

The casino room is titled 'Casino House "Barca"' in Japanese so yeah that was 'house' on the signboard. No idea what's going on with the 'come and play'-resembling thing, though.

Anna's voice acting is credited to Mizuki Mizutani who was working with Falcom as a singer/violinist. Not sure if this means they really needed someone on short notice or she really wanted to be in one of the games.

Also the credits are written in English and Mayor Bickson is called 'Mayor Vixen'.
