I have no idea why the game decided it needed to start on a flash forward. It's not like it even hints at or covers anything more detailed than "yep, our PCs sure do get to exploring ancient castles" and "Yes, the extra elemental coverage from Sky 3rd is sticking around".

I like how Sergei just admits the reason the S3 exists is to both steal work from the Bracer Guild and improve the reputation of Crossbell's local guardian forces. It's both a pragmatic and sympathetic motivation for him.
