- Zero starts a few months before CS 1 starts, so Tio is testing the first Orbal staves, so of course no one has heard of those.
- The Guardian Force is essentially Crossbell's military. The game will explain more about it as time goes on.
- There is a reward for reporting monster book progress, but that only requires an entry. Full details is only for an achievement (and as has been said, that has a NG+ requirement).
- Moving Tio forward one square is a good idea. In her default position, she didd indeed not have enough movement to hit enemies with her basic attack on her first turn. That changes as better shoes are acquired.
- Thankfully, the actual sewer part is not visitable.
- The Score in the Records is used to unlock extras like visuals and movies from the game, and minigames. It's not as exciting as it sounds.
- The Geofront isn't growing new entrances, the database records are just sloppy. I think the original intent was supposed to be that the manhole cover was left open by some workers.
- Just as a note, Evasion is very strong in this game, and Lloyd works very well as an evasion tank.

Erpy posted:

- Tio's physical attack is indeed low, but like Emma and Elliot, her weapon counts as a magical attack meaning that it's factored against magical defense rather than physical defense. It still does sucky damage if you don't upgrade her weapon. At least her S-craft is good against stuff with high physical defense since it eats right through those.

Tio's offensive power grows so slowly that it stops being very useful to upgrade her weapon after Chapter 2 (Still buy the new one each chapter, just maybe don't upgrade it). By that time you shouldn't need to be doing regular basic attacks with her anyway. Needless to say, with a magical weapon, all of Tio's direct attack crafts count as magical.

Erpy posted:

For one, the defense stat in the Trails games is pretty much a direct point-for-point damage reduction and it's a stat that quickly becomes practically irrelevant once the numbers start rising.

For this reason, and because Defense X quartz penalizes your Strength, I never bother equipping any "Defense X" quartz on anyone you want to deal physical damage. Which is everyone except Tio. Elie is not a powerhouse, but she still does reasonable damage with basic attacks if you upgrade her weapon (she's just third in priority for the upgrades).

- Special Sucker Section is a pretty fitting title for the first episode.
- What the Receptionist was surprised about was a fresh recruit to the CPD joining at Detective level, instead of coming in at a lower rank that most people do. Presumably, most Detectives started out as lower-tier policemen and then took the exam after a couple of years on the force.
- Don't be scared of all the hearts in the "Forge a Strong bond" thing. It's not like Cold Steel. Different events grant differing amounts of hearts.

Erpy posted:

In this game, I'd argue that Randy's the better evasion tank since he hits harder and has a longer range on his weapon (2 RNG versus Lloyd's 1), meaning more frequent retaliation. Unlike Azure, I don't think any of Lloyd's weapons in Zero have an evasion bonus.

Maybe, but what would you build Lloyd as then, because Randy is already the power hitter with the bigger HP pool? Personally I have never cared at all about optimizing "retaliation range", for me it's the dodging itself which matters most. To me, dodging also fits better with Lloyd's style - both in training and personality, compared to Randy, who is more aggressive.

- Tio's breastplate thing is fastened into a harness she wears. The fasteners are big because they're finger-tightened.
- Draw the Monsters Attention was the better choice. This fight is really annoying, because even when you draw the monsters attention, there still can be instances where a kid gets hit and there's nothing you can do except reload and try again. Still not the most annoying bonus DP condition fight in the Crossbell arc, though!
- I feel like the game is overly critical of Lloyd's intent to distract the monster, given the lack of plausible alternative options.

- "So you just wanna come with us and do this the whole game?" - Don't offer, she might take you up on that!
- The built-in comm is the new feature which Tio mentioned in the Orbment tutorial last video.
- I'm not sure what the gauge is, maybe some kind of channel/frequency select, although I don't know why they'd have that.

- That back door actually was put in by the original tenants for escaping.
- There are women in the CGF and CPD. I think the bunkrooms are gender segregated.
- Cecile, thankfully is not much like Elise Schwarzer.
- Crossbell is much lighter on the romance stuff than either Sky or Cold Steel.

- All the premise and most of the tutorial stuff has been set up already, so the pace should pick up. Still though, it won't be until Chapter 2 that the game is fully opened up.
- In Cold Steel, quests tended to all expire at once once a suitable main plot point was hit. In Crossbell, sometimes quests can remain open for a few days. Anything "Short" duration is likely to expire once there's a notable advance in the main plot. Long means you can hold off on completing them for a while. There are sometimes good reasons to hold off.
- The pittance you get from requests won't be nearly enough to cover your expenses. Like Trails in the Sky, most of your income will come from trading Sepith for Mira.
- LOL at the idea that you could embarrass Randy. "Joke's on you, I don't have shame!" Pretty much!
- Actually yes, you do want to feed the cat. The eventual reward is great.

- Re: The small graveyard: How big was the graveyard you visited in Cold Steel 1/2? It's just videogame compression, and avoiding redundancy. There's one farming community per country game, no matter how big the country. Rolent, Celdic, and Armorica.

- Doing a little bit of grinding at the start is prudent. because most of your income comes from exchanging sepith for mira.???
- Tio is indeed being paid by the Epstein foundation. She's just ignoring her stipend and only spending her CPD paycheque.
- Re: Old Man Conte. My immature name change person walks around the Harbor district.

- Fernand wouldn't make my "Top 50 portrait-less characters who need a portrait" list. But apparently he made someone's.
- Oh, Clarice's daughters exist. That bear also has a name.

- One of the bulletin boards in the Bracer Guild has a shift schedule posted which says which region all of the Bracers are in at the moment. It's neat if you want to keep track of them.
- I don't think Tio said "*click clack*", I think her breastplate has a small terminal in it which she uses to check things? I dunno. That could be completely wrong. SHe just keeps referring to city databases occasionally, and I'm pretty sure she hasn't got the entire thing memorized.

- Chests like that can be spotted if you have a "Detection" quartz equipped.
- I think Pansy is probably about 10-12 or so, but that's just a guess based on her style of speaking, which is more mature than that of Meiling and Mimi. Probably around the same age as Ryu and Anri. I think she didn't remember Lloyd becasue she doesn't care.
- Babies will appear in Cold Steel 3. Not in any meaningful way, but they do exist in this universe.
- In the flashback to Guy's funeral, it was mentioned that Guy had been taking care of Lloyd after their parents died. They will get into specifics much later down the line.
- Randy is short for Randolph.
- You never lose access to the Geofront once you have it, except in certain circumstances.

- Cooking in the Crossbell games is a lot more trial and error than in Cold Steel. It also doesn't have the "unique" variation which only one character can create. The Failure chance produces something essentially useless.
- Elsa is the wife, Momo is the daughter.

- If talking to every NPC at every opportunity is too much, I can send secretly best girl the highlights. (It's no effort for me, someone else's guide has them listed.)
- Have you found who/what accepts the Supreme Dishes? There's no rush to doing so, and only the final reward is worthwhile.

Erpy posted:

I use both of them as frontliners and try to boost the evasion of both, but when it comes to distributing top-tier stuff like the evergreens, I found myself prioritizing Randy because Lloyd gets a means of keeping his defense boosted and defending against ailments, meaning the consequences of the enemy getting a shot in are less severe with him.

It's not just about accessories, but battle orbments. Later on, there aren't enough slots on these orbments to make use of both the evasion-enhancing quartz and the high-offence-enhancing quartz on one person.

- "These people all have stories and we have to find their stories. We have to learn! Especially about this guy. This newspaper guy with the weird sleeves." :laffo: See you in two hundred hours.
- There's a lot of dialogue, so Falcom doesn't update it as often as it does when there are fewer people to write for.
- That place by the water in the Residential District is a spot for fishing - in Azure.
- I have checked to see how broken you could make the casino. The short answer is that you can't.
-- Technically, you can make "free money" by gambling and winning tokens to exchange for prizes which you could sell... but the time investment isn't worth it. If you're looking to make money, it's way faster to simply kill monsters and trade in sepith.
- The Bunny Girl almost never has any dialogue changes, and I don't recall her having interesting dialogue.
- No one ever stays in the... (what does the compass say?) the west room of Hotel Millenium in Zero, so you never have to check that one, ever.
- Garante sells cocktails. If I recall, the recipe for Shiny Blue is one of the last recipes you can learn.
- I don't think the holes in the ground with the bricks mean anything at all.
- There's a very, very interesting quest from Imelda you can get late in the game if you have enough DP, so try not to miss many points.
- You can never go up the stairs in the newspaper building, and Tria always says the same thing if you go behind the counter to talk to her.
- "Randy is ready to BE 'Die Hard' 24/7." Analyzing... No lies detected.

- Michaud is a student, which explains why he's in the cheap housing of the Downtown District.
- CP does go up slow at the start, but there is a craft and a spell which help. In a couple of chapters, you can sandbag in battles vs outdated enemies to rapidly boost your CP up to 200. Or just rest at the Millenium hotel for 200 CP.
- Geofront Monster Exterminations - and there aren't all that many - are always at former boss locations.
- This was the first game in the series to use the +/- 25%/50% Stat buff/debuffs familiar from Cold Steel.
- The four you have are the core. You'll almost always have all four of them available. Lloyd will always be mandatory, of course.
- For the imminent upcoming Lloyd solo battle, I think I gave him an HP 1 and Evade 1, plus one of the +5% Evade pinwheels from the East Street.
- I should note that when urgent requests come up, you have time to return to the SSS HQ to report quests. It's a good practice, as you'll get paid, and you could also possibly get promoted and receive a bonus.

This is before Cold Steel, so they hadn't broken up things into "there are questing segments and main story segments and ne'er the two shall meet" sections.

- The "Multiplier of 3.0 or more" is actually one which likely requires specifically trying to get it. I think one way I did it was to remove all the weapons from characters and farmed things like triple counters or cancelling arts. It's a good idea to also go for a triple battle chain at the same time.
- If you want to avoid leaving surprise three hour videos for yourself, here's a tip: When the time of day turns to sunset, with the screen filter and all, returning to base to end the day often triggers a bunch of cutscenes - sometimes with a pause where you get enough control to save, but not always.

- It shouldn't surprise you, but even this early, it's already impossible for you to reach Detective First Class. This game has a very, very small margin for top rank.
- Full disclosure: I make mistakes on these kinds of questions all the time, I just make frequent saves and reload after I screw up.
- I think Elie just means that she's used to dealing with people who have various types of personalities.

- Winning the fight (without lowering the difficulty) is a little tricky, you need to heal and hold off on S-Crafts until he's under 50% HP, but it's possible. You really do want an HP 1 quartz on Lloyd for Tear, though. You were warned well in advance of a tough solo fight.
- If you want Lloyd to dodge better, then you should have equipped him with an Evade 1 and a Pinwheel from that shop on East Street.
- S-Crafts always interrupt casting. I'm pretty sure that's true in all the games.

- The shift schedule is handy if you want to track down Bracers to talk to. They move around a lot and can be hard to find.
- Missing the structure of the Church one makes some sense because it's not something which gets talked about as much.
- It's a little pity about just missing the free Action 1 quartz, but you can get a free one next chapter by fishing up an Eel and giving it to Coppe.

I think the reason you got the question about "how do the Testaments know it was the Saber Vipers" wrong was because you were slightly overthinking it. The question was not "How could we prove, in a court of law, that the Saber Vipers were responsible." It was "What evidence would make these (not terribly brainy) gang members presume it must have been the Saber Vipers." (I got this question wrong my first time too.)

When you lowered the difficulty, you beat Wald in roughly 26 turns - including casting and Wald's posturing which does nothing.

Re: The hidden quest. Yeah, some of the hidden quests in this duology are bullshit to find. This one had a tell because the city dialogue had changed, but I recall there being some quests in Azure which appear after a main plot point happens which does NOT change city dialogue - only in one room somewhere have things updated, but because dialogue hasn't updated in most places, you wouldn't think to check every room on the map even if you are talking to all NPC's.

- I think that some dialogues have a flag to say "doesn't reset after you switch scenes", and sometimes that doesn't get set for long dialogues, which is why Kienz's dialogue repeated. I don't think that's a bug, just how the game works.
- I think Michel said it directly earlier: The SSS hasn't done anything yet to prove themselves capable, and they're also all rookies.
- There actually are two whole (if short) book series in the library.
- You always report quests through the SSS computer, never at the CPD.
- Kate is referring to the Metropolitian division rookies. Lloyd is the only rookie who took and passed the detective exam, which is not required for standard police training.
- It sounds like the third-floor resident consistently leaves early and comes back late. Odd hours would be coming and going at random times.
- Eric at Garante is a decent source of info.
- Elie will clarify what she meant about the dolls not being THOSE dolls if you check that case again in Chapter ** two **.
- "I guess when you have a reporter like Grace, the mob would burn down a building or two." Yeah, that possibility is pretty much exactly why the former Crossbell Times building has a back exit.

- Lloyd will gradually realize how many problems Crossbell has under the surface, and how difficult they are to solve.
- I'll put it this way: Dudley makes Machias look like a chaotic, fun-loving party animal.
- The "Male symbols" on the sprite (which on the sprite actually look more like the female symbol) are visible in the full-body portrait, they're actually tiny little fasteners, not anywhere near as big as they are on the sprite.
- "The whole room should just groan as one." That is in fact pretty much the team's reaction in the future whenever someone mentions they know about the SSS from the Crossbell Times.
- I don't think the Heiyue building literally appeared overnight. It's probably just referring that it was constructed very rapidly. As in it was a vacant lot in a desirable part of town, suggesting (a)the price was steep, (b)this company is rich enough to pay the high price for the land and (c) to have construction expedited. Which would make sense for a group knowing they're competitors to the mafia. The less time the mafia have to react before Heiyue can get settled into their new base, the better it'll be. I won't tell you that the building CAN'T fly, but I lied. The Heiyue building is made of ordinary materials and it cannot fly. These games do get pretty batshit... but not batshit in some of the highly specific ways you're guessing.

- Taking out the two leaders of each gang directly probably wouldn't have worked so well for a few reasons. If both of them died, it would have been much more obvious that a third party was involved. A new group coming in soon after to recruit would have been too suspicious, and poisoned the remaining members against suspicious recruitment.

- The end of the Prologue is one of three points in the game where you have to choose between different party members. This gives 3 bond points towards them, and the first one to reach 13, that's the ending you get. That's not a spoiler, the game keeps track of that in the "Form a strong bond with..." achievement.
- There is a way to spread out your points so that you can still have all three endings possible before the ending, but that requires playing in a specific way, which I don't think Level 1 Thief is interested in doing.
- If it's "new information" or "revelations" which you are most interested in, I think Randy's ending is the most interesting, and Tio's is the least interesting. I have saves, though.

- Seven Rush is what it sounds like - your side gets to act for seven or more consecutive turns.
- Chief Sergei's dialogue apparently changes depending on how well you did in the investigation, because I got
Sergei: "I guess you guys did pretty okay for a bunch of rookies, huh? You pooled what little experience you have and found a way through."
Lloyd: "Th-Thank you, sir... (That IS a compliment, right?)"

- There is no quest - at least in Zero - where you have to chase around a cat. (There IS a cat quest, coming up pretty soon, actually. But no chasing.)
- There are multiple reasons for using Zero. One of them is obviously that they're starting out as members of an organization which has little trust with the people and a poor reputation - starting from Zero. I like to think that another reason is the from the phrase "Zero to Hero."

- This scene seems to be Arios refusing another offer of an unofficial promotion to S-Rank.
- No, we don't know what incident Arios resolved in Remiferia was. The masterminds eluding capture sounds suspiciously like Ouroboros, but that's not for certain.
- "We're worried about Elie crumbling to dust." You'll see soon.
- What the Deputy Commander meant was that the report presents the facts, she didn't want to bias the SSS's thinking by giving the opinions of her or the CGF.
- Both Sonia and the girl in the back both had portraits in the base game.
- Sonia wasn't sweet on Randy in that she had romantic feelings for him, but she did have a high enough opinion of him to ensure that he landed on his feet in the SSS after getting fired from the CGF. The question to ask then is, "Does it seem like Deputy Commander Baelz would do that for someone who was fired for either inappropriate fraternizing or sexually harassing women?" I leave the answer for you to decide.
- There are technically no sidequests in the villages because the game is still easing players in. Even this chapter's hidden quest is in the main city.

- Lloyd is not Beautiful Mind-ing Cecile. It would be unusual to make a protagonist of one of these games to be delusional. Remember that the prologue wouldn't let you leave the main city. There are like six or seven other places outside of Crossbell city.
- Randy has been in Crossbell State for about two years.
- I think that there's enough sepith available, and the slots were cheap enough that I was able to have everyone's slots unlocked by the end of this chapter.
- There's no rush to get the covers, but they do contribute 1 bonding point. (I'm not sure what the ones for Lloyd do, but his do count for the achievement.) They're quite affordable, at the standard Sepith exchange rate, that's less than 6 of each color. Just maybe hold off until after more useful stuff - especially weapons - is purchased.
- Randy has LOTS of surprises in store. He ended up being my favorite character of the arc.

- "The Saint and the White Wolf" - You'll find out whose backstory it is with the second volume.
- "This is not what I expected the punchline to be." That's because NISA messed up the punchline. In the Geofront version, the title of Raymond's overdue book was "Famous Female Figures" (and in an earlier revision, "Beauties of the World"). Those are titles for which it would make sense for Raymond to be confused. It makes far less sense for him to be confused about "Women Who Changed The World".
- LOL that you specified a Rocket Launcher as Fran's hypothetical weapon.
- The left roped-off-area in City Hall leads to a reception room. It's open for a few well-publicized special events (which I'll try and mention), but it's not something you can freely explore.

- Neinvalli is an excellent shop for fun dialogue and "the word on the streets." It's usually worth a visit at every dialogue update.
- "These are my new favorite merchants in the series." I have good news for you!
- Mira comes in bill forms as well, Tio mentions that vending machines only take coins, not bills. Presumably bills have traceable serial numbers.
- Yeah, the CPD ignores Ashleigh's goings-on because she's a valuable informant.
- In Zero, quartz trading at Neinvalli is pretty darn obnoxious and only really worth doing if you have some spares, or are going for a special quartz. It's usually simpler to just synth it at Genten.
- You get to go downstairs in Neinvalli I think exactly once during Azure for a collectible.

- Felicia is a random Erebonian noble's daughter. She doesn't appear in any of the Cold Steel games that I recall.
- Remember Lars and Kurt in the Long Lao inn for a hidden sidequest later.
- It is important to teach the player about exchanging Sepith, because this is before Cold Steel's Sepith Masses. The small amount of money you get from the CPD for completing requests won't cover your expenses.
- The Epstein Branch office is in the IBC building, that's why the Chief came out of the elevator. I think a few other businesses have space in the IBC building as well.

- In Azure, Imelda does specifically say that she has more than one informant. The player only learns about one, though. You could be right... but you two are also doing a whole lot of exclaiming "Zebra!" when hearing the sound of hooves.
- The fisherman seems to just be a very grumpy old man who only cares about fishing. He's not going to overhear a lot of juicy dialogue standing alone on the pier. He's not even facing the Heiyue building so he can't see what they're doing.
- Arc-En-Ciel may be continuing performances of their old show, while the work on the new show continues.

- I once tested out exchanging prizes for mira (by selling them), and while it's technically profitable because you can infinitely generate tokens for no further mira cost, it's not profitable enough to be worth the time. The best get-rich-quick method right now is killing monsters and selling their sepith at the IBC. That method also nets you monster drops as a bonus.
- The poker on the floor is without jokers, but since you asked, a five-of-a-kind does trump a Royal Flush.
- Ouch, dropping a grand on tokens. I only buy like 10 tokens and turn those into more. But my way does take time and wouldn't make for a great video.
- The Blackjack is really BS with how lucky the dealer gets. It's amazing that you won three hands in a row.
- Poker, on the other hand, is "graded on a curve". The early hands greatly favor the player, and it only starts to edge in favor of the house in the late ones. Poker is the way to make tokens, if you want. The more rounds you play, the more likely you'll lose, though, that's why Raising is so useful, for just 10 tokens, it lets you skip to a much higher payout.
- It's not NIS America games, the cards were the same in the Geofront. The Queen of clubs is the protagonist from Gurumin. The King and Queen of Hearts are from Zwei I, the King and Queen of Diamonds are from Zwei II, the Queen of Spades is from Brandish, the Dark Revenant.
- Those Purrrfect Boots in the Casino prize list? I got those for Lloyd and kept them on him for literally the rest of the game, because evasion is super-good.

- The best part about the hardest fight in the Sky trilogy is that it isn't just a bunch of instant-kill nonsense, or relying on clones or minions, or high-powered arts. It's just a lot of hard-hitting attacks from someone who is strong and has a good amount of HP.

- Thankfully, Azure introduces the Analyze art, so Tio doesn't have to be the designated scanner.
- Um, yes, you need to buy new gear in new chapters, or else that happens: your damage falls off a cliff. It's much more important than levels.
- Randy's S-Craft has the benefit of being an AoE circle. Lloyd's Tiger Charge S-Craft is the best one for farming Sepith-Up Turns.
- You have 2 U-Materials, you need 1 for an upgrade, and it increases each chapter. Maybe? I could be confused.

- The monsters which only appear in battle with other monsters aren't the most annoying. The Shining Poms however take a concerted effort and lots of attempts to get them to spawn. It's a "1 in 8 chance," but that doesn't seem to come up very often. One of them can appear near that Acerbic Tomartian.

Rabbi Raccoon posted:

Honestly, the stuff at the Casino is cheap enough you can literally just buy the tokens you need to get items over the course of both games

At a 5 mira per token exchange rate? I mean, sure, if you want that Martial Arts Uniform you could exchange 28 of each sepith at the IBC to get the 5000 mira needed for 1 Martial Arts Uniform, but is it worth paying 4200 mira for just 4 more DEF and 5 speed? You could get leather jackets and boots for everyone for the price of one casino Martial Arts Uniform. At that price, though, it's 40% more expensive than the best Gironde-bought Chapter 3 armor, and that has more than double the defense boost. So yeah, you can just buy the tokens, but it takes additional steps just so you can massively overpay.

Ultimately, if you want the casino stuff, the path of least grinding and running around required is to win a few rounds at poker. Personally I'd rather turn 10 mira into 1000 tokens than 5000 mira into 1000 tokens.

Oh for sure, money is pretty easy to come by, but I'm not wrong about it being cheaper and taking fewer steps to get casino prizes by winning tokens in casino games. The most profitable money-making method in Zero doesn't even come online until mid-way through Chapter 3. Chapter 1 doesn't even give you free access to all the highways yet.

- I think the cans are because if you DIDN'T get the lemonade, instead you get cans from the vending machines, and they didn't want to change the graphics for the scene.
- Chapter 1 of Zero is... February 1204. The very start of Cold Steel 1 is March 31, 1204.
- When first seeing Zero, I wasn't convinced by Chief Tolta's theory. If the problem was the city growing, why would the wolves be hitting everywhere BUT the city? (It's also not helpful for the investigation, as even if it was true, there's no practical solution to the wolf problem.)
- Derek and his father, Chief Tolta, don't get along at all. It's a whole saga.

- Some fish are only found in specific spots using specific baits. I'll pass that information along because doing it trial and error would make for bad video material. The final fish can only be caught after catching all the previous ones, but the reward is incredibly worthwhile.
- Unfortunately, baits are only monster drops, which means fighting monsters just for them. (There is one special kind of bait you can buy once you have caught 16 unique fish.)

- Currently, any motive for Harold is unclear - as you pointed out yourself, being more generous loses you money in the short-term for unclear long-term gains. There's also the question about the effort and expense of training, feeding and storing wolves. It seems like that would cost some money as well on top of the generosity given when making his deal. That said, long cons are absolutely something this series does a lot.
- It is very interesting that no one heard any howling. Remember that for later.

- The Residential District fishing spot is only in Azure.
- When deciding what to trade to Marte, make sure to keep Snow Crab, Carp and Kasagin - they're used as bait fish to catch other, larger fish once you have a better rod. Also, you may wish to hold onto any Eels because there's a sidequest next chapter. (The one you gave Coppe was an excellent choice because Time Sepith is still rare and in demand.)
- You may wish to delay feeding Coppe in Chapter 2 until after you "acquire" a new fishing rod, because that'll let you fish up a Salmon, which trades for a very useful quartz you won't be able to otherwise get until Chapter 3. The new fishing rod isn't available immediately, but still on the first day.
- Feeding Coppe is once per chapter in Zero. It's once per DAY in Azure. I messed that up in my Geofront run.

Please tell me you didn't gamble at the casino so you could sell the prizes. I actually tested the math out on this once out of curiosity.

Everything you can win at the casino has a medal price calculated so that when taking into account the number of 7-round matches of poker needed to get enough medals for a prize, and the amount each prize sells for... each completed 7-poker-rounds nets you 250 mira - no matter what prize you're selling. You'd make substantially more profit by exchanging TWO(2) of each sepith color to an average merchant.

(And for anyone who remembers Elliot and his Warm Egg Soup - in the Crossbell games, cooking dishes to sell them isn't reliable enough to be all that profitable either.)

- I don't remember any mention of crystalization, nor any status effect where you die in three turns (other than Burn/Scorch) in any Trails content other than this book series. Well, okay, (Sky SC) what happened to Weissman comes close, but I don't think it's the same.
- You'll pass by the local cathedral before the end of the chapter, but the Archbishop tends to be particularly unhelpful. Obstinate, even.
- Randy's upgrade here lowering the accuracy is thankfully a rare occurrence, probably to balance the larger increase in power.
- I think there's exactly one time in Azure when you can go to the Neinvalli storeroom for a collectible.
- Actually I think during the ride, the Hayworth's car was said to go for 800,000 mira.
- Decorations aren't time limited in this game. There are a couple in Azure which are only available at a specific time-limited location.
- You already found Sergei last time, he's at the restaraunt on East Street.
- The key to infinite money (and thus purchasing Imelda's expensive accessories) is in Chapter 3, although it may not be very interesting to do.

I'm willing to hear it out, but it already sounds dull, so don't be surprised if it goes the way of Elliot's soup.

It probably is dull, but it has the virtues of being uncomplicated, and faster and FAR more profitable than the soup. It's very much a "do this offscreen" thing. Essentially, once you reach a high enough rank in the Fisherman's Guild, you can buy one type of bait for 100 mira each. There's a certain fishing spot which only has one fish which goes for that bait, and even the smallest size will give you enough Sepith to trade in at a merchant for 8.5 (9 at the IBC) times the cost of one bait. A single fish of the largest size gives you 10 times as much (8500 (9000) mira worth) - about 1/3 the cost of one of Imelda's accessories from just one fish which cost you one bait worth 100 mira. It has additional benefits as well: every little bit of extra sepith helps, since the highest level quartz need a LOT of sepith to synthesize.

- You need a better rod. "Nothing is biting" is the "nothing responds to this bait" message.

- Since you noticed the name said in the voice-acting was different, the blue-haired doctor is named Joachim Guenter, which is why he was called "Joachim-sensei".
- Jaeger is German (and also English, apparently) for 'hunter'. I also don't really know of any 'good' Jaegers, only good EX-jaegers. That probably comes with the territory of "will fight and kill people for money." Fie's friends are honestly the nicest jaegers we've seen, which is saying a LOT for people who were introduced planting land mines 'as a way to say hello' to teenage high school students.
- Cecile isn't going to be the first nurse who gets fired from a hospital which still employs Cirone.
- Even I used a guide for fishing the first time, I think that's a good idea. Each spot has a certain range of fish and there are a few annoying cases where a fish is only available at one spot only, using a certain bait. This is the fishing guide I used for Zero. The locations of some fishing spots are noted, but they're not really spoilers. I used this mostly to decide what to feed the cat.
- The more times I talked to Nurse Cirone, the more she really got under my skin. Her traits are "simple-minded optimism" and "complete incompetence", which extends to her inability to recognize her complete incompetence and inability to learn anything from her constant, unending mistakes.
- Tio got bonding points from that extra optional scene with Martha.
- Honestly Zero an especially Azure do some good things with the sprites/models. Hugging is kinda difficult. Even in Cold Steel, hair clips through people. Hair on the sprites/models is not actual physical hair and it won't compress and move out of the way when you put another sprite right up close to it, like real hair would if a real person hugged someone.
- Re: Elie's trauma: (vague) Honestly, it is pretty mild, which is part of the problem with her character.
- Re: Randy's trauma: (vague) Interesting that at least one of you thinks that Randy is playing things up a bit much.
- "Here's everything I observed, but I'm not sure I observed it. I'm so unhelpful." - That's actually a little more helpful than normal eyewitness testimony, where people can be certain about things they're actually remembering incorrectly.
- It is mentioned at times that Shizuku's hospital bills are expensive. I don't think Remiferia is directly paying them.
- I think Randy was largely just teasing Lloyd because it was fun. And while Elie is the romance option, and she's fine, I think Randy's ending is actually the most interesting and gives the most new information.
- If it's any consolation, that's probably the most times the hospital dialogue changes in one day, ever. It's also the end of the day, so there's no additional dialogue in the city. That was a good stopping point, though.

Honestly, a case could be made for Randy being the secret main character of this arc and there are times where it feels like he was originally supposed to be and that Lloyd was either added in later or they swapped places

I definitely don't agree with that. Randy has too much personality - he's nowhere near bland and serious enough to be a main character. Secondly, he gets only a small to moderate amount of attention from women, instead of an obsessive amount - that alone is enough to discredit that he was a secret main character.

If anyone in the franchise is a "secret main character," who seems like they were added in later or swapped places, I think it might be a certain blander-than-cold-oatmeal character from CS3/4, who has an impressively crafted lack of development, personality, and story impact. (Well, okay, if your opinion is that main characters should possess a high level of development, personality, and story impact, then in the Crossbell games, yes, Randy would be that person and for Cold Steel, the secret main character would be ****** Alisa ******.)

On the other hand, Crossbell combines not having regular bonding events AND "pick your favorite", which is an even worse combination than Cold Steel, because you don't even get the little scenes of spending downtime with a person to establish at least some on-screen connection.

A probably-incomplete list of people from Trails in the Sky who had portraits, but were not party members, were not evil/became evil, and were not secret badasses: (Trails in teh Sky trilogy character names) Aina, Mayor Klaus, Nial, Dorothy, Lugram, Mayor Maybelle, Lita, Matron Theresa, Klem, Mary, Polly, Daniel, Jean, Chief Murdoch, Professor Russell, Dan, Mrs. Mao, Chief Gustav, Elnan, Queen Alicia, Hilda – and I’m leaving out all ones who were not evil but you did technically fight (from a certain point of view).

I think a key person to keep in mind is Professor Russell, who was a source of specialized knowledge which the player characters otherwise had no access to. It could be that some of the characters with portraits in Crossbell fit in that same niche.

- The Trails games continue to weave in both important and unimportant things into the backstory, and it's not always clear which is which.
- I've literally never noticed the icons for the recipes, but yeah, it looks like the ones for regular and supreme were switched.
- Oh no, you're doing the thing of buying a ton of ingredients without having the recipe. I'm pretty free with my mira in these games, but in the early game I reserve the little money I have for buying ingredients I can actually make use of.
- It is eventually revealed who is leaving the letters and items on the Jizo shrine, but that's at like the end of Azure. And just to be clear, it's not really an earth-shattering revelation, it's just "oh, it was an NPC we've talked to".
- Carp, Snow Crab and Kasagin are all bait fish, but everything else you aren't saving for Coppe can be traded to Marte, there's no reason not to do so, other than the fact that you can only trade in one fish at a time and you have to go through a series of dialogue boxes every time to confirm that yes, you do want to trade this single fish for something. I so, SO wish you could trade in at least multiple of the same fish at once.
- There is one character named Kurt in every arc in the series. The first Kurt is the most interesting and well developed. None of the Kurts really have personalities, though.
- Getting 200 tokens is pretty trivial from poker, and reasonably fast.
- I think the notes should have mentioned that the reward for completing the hidden quest does not cover the cost of buying the tokens needed to exchange. That 120 mira is, let's see... enough for 24 tokens, leaving you to cover the other 176. Swell.
- There's no reward for getting a second one for Tio, but no rush either. It's just a lousy accessory.
- The father of the little girl in Lotus Apartments works constructing the new town hall.
- You get to go to the basement storeroom of Neinvalli exactly once (for a collectible), and that instance is a long, long ways away (not in this game).

- Elie and Tio stayed behind to make sure monsters couldn't flee out the front.
- Since you can't leave after starting the mission, Tio restores mana and Elie restores HP, so you could have returned to them to heal up instead of using items.
- I read the novel which Dave Barry's movie was based on, and I found that much worse than the movie, the things the bad guys did was a little too nasty and it sucked out the humor and just made it uncomfortable. The movie version, if I recall, softened it up a little, which was an improvement.
- You CAN see what Wald's numbers are if you try and cast a buff/heal art with a target and move it to an ally.
- I'm glad you hit level 16 in the fight. Hopefully you get Randy to 17 before Mainz.
- Wald doesn't have a death wish. He has an unhealthy amount of pride, and whenever that pride gets challenged - such as needing to be helped against some monsters, his anger surfaces.
- Maison Imelda takes a long time to repopulate, but I think it does eventually.
- The Administrative district has so little in it that can't be visited after Azure.

- Reverie is... I guess largely good. It takes place a few months after the end of Cold Steel 4, so it is very much a case of "play all the games after Sky before playing this." There's definitely a few things which I personally think are going to be a lot more surprising the less you know about it going in.

- "You're kinda clipping through the chair, buddy." It's not relevant to these games, but I will say that Cold Steel III introduces highly advanced animations like "standing up from a chair."
- (Re: The bell being dug up from an old ruin) "Oh, they did, did they?" "That seems ominous." :allears:
- "Give us a recipe!" I do include where all the recipes are found each chapter in the notes I send.
- Seal is good for Lloyd as one of his later crafts inflicts it naturally and the quartz will stack the chance with it.
- Now that you have access to the Crossbell Cathedral, most of the time you'll be able to visit it - even if you can otherwise not leave the city, you can usually still visit the Cathedral.
- Lloyd did get trained in picking locks. It just rarely comes up when he has a reason to do it, and he's probably not great at picking more than simple locks.
- There are far worse Butt Monsters in Crossbell than the Hummingators. You'll know. Soon.
- Unstunnable "tough enemy" monsters only started appearing in Cold Steel 1. Anything* on the field can be stunned if hit from the back in the Crossbell games.
- That scene with Renne wasn't optional, by the way. If you try to ignore the branch and keep going for Mainz, Lloyd refuses until checking the other path out.
- I think the correct spelling is Joerg.
- There's a fishing spot on the bridge by the waterfall, not that you had any bait.
- There's actually a convenient monster grinding spot before the chapter's boss fight.
- Of the other Zero videos I've seen, people always remember that the monsters Lytton remembers were a different color from the white wolf, but they almost never get that the answer is both. Tio hearing the howling at Armorica probably confuses people into thinking that howls were heard there, and many people forget that no one at the other places mentions hearing any.
- I predict that you are going to greatly appreciate Randy learning Crash Bomb very shortly.
- Randy's Crash Bomb and Elie's Holy Bullet are ridiculously powerful, and as such get hit with a hefty nerf bat in Azure.

- The way the quiz in the inn phrases some of its things is absolutely unclear in places. I screwed this one up my first time as well, I think. Like for motive and means which one is Black Wolves and which one is the Wolves abilities? The motive is indeed Wolves Abilities and the Means are Black Wolves.
- Here is why it doesn't make sense for the property damages/injuries (or a protection scheme) to be the main motivation. There was only the one attack on Armorica and St. Ursula and then nothing afterwards, and neither place were contacted by Revache offering to solve the problem in exchange for something. If the goal of those attacks was for some form of gain, that a lack of followup accomplishes nothing. That means the attacks were in service of something else.
- "I think what I'm coming to learn through this game is that Crossbell sucks." Oh yes, it's got some major flaws in its structure which are causing all kinds of problems once you look past the shiny lights of the big city. That's a major theme.
- The game will automatically heal your EP and HP to full before the end chapter fight. I did check and it does not heal your CP, though.
- The mosquitos in Imelda Apartments dropped a lot of Eye Drops.
- Even if you fight every enemy once, you probably won't be higher than level 17 on everyone by this point. Getting Randy to level 17 for Crash Bomb was the important part, though.
- The Martial Arts uniform is probably more attractive if you used casino tokens to get it at the start of Chapter 1.
- All dog/wolf-type creatures in the game (including Zeit) have an attack called "Fang," which has the Cannot Miss property, so even if blinded and attacking someone with max evasion, it'll land. It's the one with AT Delay, which make it annoying.
- I think Tio's S-Craft is based on ATS, not STR.

- Goodness yes, definitely get new weapons. Each chapter's new weapons are a substantial increase over the previous chapter's stuff, and spoiler alert, there are no new weapons you can just find in random chests outside of the final dungeon.
- Exchanging that same amount of Sepith at the IBC would have given you an extra 429 mira, which would have been most of the mira cost for upgrading a weapon this chapter.
- Tio for the upgrade is a little of an odd choice as this is about the time when her basic attack damage just falls off. It is true that right now she has little EP for casting.

- I don't really know what the deal is with "EXP 1" listed for some powerful enemies, but rest assured that if you beat them, you do get a healthy pile of XP.
- The groups of 8 Fartacus are an early way to try and get the "kill 8 enemies at once achievement." It does require a little finagling, and then Randy's S-Craft after they're all moderately weakened equally.
- If you use an S-Break to steal a CP Up turn, you get the CP before the S-Craft goes off, so if you're just shy it could be a way to get to 200.
- The quartz in Zero aren't really easy to trade for, it's complicated in an annoying way. Trading for quartz becomes THE way to upgrade quartz in the last three Cold Steel games, though.

- I don't know about video poker tactics, but I have figured out and shared tactics for poker in Zero/Azure.
- In terms of costs, the analogy wouldn't really be "cable modems in the 1990's." It's actually closer to the 1960's or 1970's. Technology has evolved super-fast, which means it hasn't had time to spread very far. Costs haven't been driven down enough yet.
- It looks like the hotel put windows looking out over the entertainment district on the other side. As to why there are no rooms, I'm not sure, but it could possibly have to do with the weight of the arch which goes over the street. EDIT: Yeah, any rooms on the other side of the arch would be supported only by the arch itself, which would probably be a lot of unwanted extra strain. The hotel is at least 30 years old, so it has missed out on any advancements in building technology since then.
- Two entrances to the hotel, two check-in desks.

- So you still think that the war hounds thing in last chapter was about a shakedown, even though the SSS explicitly spelled out what the mafia likely wanted the hounds for and the cutscene of the mafia at chapter start confirmed it? It seems pretty doubtful that the war hounds were used for the purposes of a shakedown because they didn't do the shakedown part for two of the three places hit.

- The enemies at the Moon Temple are very high level for this chapter, which is why they're so tough.
- Given what I know, Mark and the Witch of the Deep Forest does not seem to be based on a true story, so it cannot be asumed that its details are as accurate as, say, Carnelia. I also cannot confirm or deny anything about the veracity of Back-Alley Dr. Glenn, since it's set in a location the series has not visited yet.
- I understand that doing a full screen clear of enemies doesn't make for a compelling video, so I'm not suggesting you do it, but if you want to catch fish, you'll need to kill some enemies on the roads at least offscreen to get bait. You're not going to get a lot of bait just fighting each unique enemy a single time only. Azure is at least kinder with making bait easier to acquire.
- Retaliatory earthquakes from monsters have the "Always Hits" property, Blind and Evasion would have done nothing.
- So, Randy said that he was fired for womanizing, but, strangely enough, no one at Bellguard seems to mention that. Hmmm. Curious.

Re: Memorable children: Actually, you pretty much have seen all the children and locations for Zero, although there is at least one more pair of memorable children. But you've seen most of the locations in both games already.

- Re: The blocked off door in the St. Ursula inn. That seems to just lead to a couple of rooms for lodging at the inn, nothing exciting. Falcom never has anyone ever stay there, so they just don't let the player in. But those rooms "exist" if you want to use the "Rest" function at the hospital.
- Please tell me that "90" refers to kilometers per hour. In mph that's probably edging into the range of "stunt driving" charges.

- Amisa's grandpa is indeed the guy (Old Man Quint, I think) fishing at the harbour.
- Wendy and Oscar never had portraits in the original games. Randy's not-girlfriend Mireille did get one in Azure, though.
- Tio's first decoration takes a little longer to show up.

- I think Rixia is in exercise shorts of some kind.
- In the fandom, Rixia is notorious for how her bust size seems to increase in each successive game she appears in. Elie isn't that far behind either. I think Alisa also gets an asset upgrade, although for her it is not to excess, unlike the first two.
- To be fair to Elie, Lloyd is the only one she can see, the other two are behind her. That also means that Rixia is more likely to be looking at Lloyd and would notice if his eyes are looking elsewhere.

- You don't need to feel too bad for Randy. There's at least hope for him. Lloyd, due to Player Choice, is doomed to the purgatory of Relationship Ambiguity.
- You can now usually enter Arc-en-Ciel whenever you want for the rest of the Crossbell games, although sometimes they're too busy and you'll get kicked out. The game usually only lets you explore the second floor of the theatre if there's actually something there to see. It helps the player to not waste time.

- A couple years back, there was a person who was doing a deliberate failure run LP on the Steam forums - all answers wrong in the main quest, no bonus points. Sidequests could only be done if it was possible to fail them or screw them up. I think it was screenshot-based through Imgur. I didn't really read it, though. I know it covered the first two Sky games and Cold Steel games. It pre-dated the Crossbell releases, though.

- After watching this video my tongue is sore from biting it so much. Which is not to say you got all your wild theories and guesses correct, you did get some things wrong.

Level 1 Thief posted:

In this video and the next couple, I was a bit confused because the voice actors were clearly saying "Gin" while the name on the threat letter is "Yin," but I've realized what was going on: they're reading 銀, which means "silver" in both Japanese and Traditional Chinese. So they read it in Japanese and get corrected later by Grimwood to the Chinese pronunciation. Meanwhile, Gin and Yin are obviously not homonyms in the Latin alphabet so they just cut that part from the translation.

Yeah, I think the early Geofront or pre-Geofront releases carried that translation over. I know that the abandoned screenshot LP of Zero used a translation which switched from Gin to Yin. I think I found that confusing and do not mind cutting that out.

- I don't think anyone anywhere has said that one or both of the mafias in town have bought all the tickets. That seems to be another conclusion you've jumped to based on a scattering of three or so regular citizens who didn't get them. I believe the implication was merely that "Hey, this troupe is really, REALLY popular with the locals."
- That IBC logo has a look like "The boss designed it himself, who was going to tell him no?"
- Oh, I don't think I talked to Cecile after meeting Ilya, good find.
- Those Banana Blades have Deathblow, so watch out.
- That level 25 monster chest is a gear check, you need Chapter 3 equipment to stand a chance (probably armor as well as weapons).
- Elie's Wild Swan is also good for Sepith Up turns.
- Ouroboros is not actually up to Enforcer XIX yet. They officially will be in Reverie. Do not look it up.

- "It's just going to be like Resident Evil in there." :allears:
- Here, I'll answer about Elie's "It's nothing" from the conversation after leaving Revache. It's not a big deal or notable spoiler or big surprise reveal: Elie didn't like being reminded that the mafia has connections in the diet.

- There's no bonus BP tied to questioning people about the threat letter or Yin, I think that was just a reminder that dialogue has updated.
- Yes, partial dialogue updates are pretty obnoxious, especially when the dialogue does NOT update but a hidden quest suddenly appears somewhere.
- I don't think the Geofront has entrances beyond the edges of the city. The skirmishes over smuggling routes is actually referring to all the highway "accidents" which have been mentioned occasionally.

Fishing
- You can only get baits from enemy drops, so if you want to fish, there's no getting around the need to look at monster guides and target those enemies for some grinding off-screen. Azure offers bait packs as a prize in the Casino, pretty cheaply (in terms of tokens, not the 5x Mira cost), but that still requires a bit of grinding, it's just at poker instead.
- With the rods you have available, you could catch up to 14 different types of fish. Here's what you're missing:
(Earthworm OR Roe)
-- Tiger Rockfish: Armorica Village, Mainz Stream
-- Rockeater: Armorica Village, Mainz Stream
(Red Flies)
-- Azelfish: Harbour District, Ursula Road Beach
(Roe)
-- Rainbow Trout: Mainz Stream, Mainz Waterfall
-- Salmon: Harbour District, East Crossbell Highway River, Mainz Waterfall, Ursula Road Beach
- Your reward for turning in 12 types of fish will be something which will increase the chances of item drops, which includes bait.

- The Back Alley's dialogue did update too. Before the update Imelda HAD been talking about the IBC and orbal banking, but her conversation is different after the update.
- I think that Arc en Ciel still shows old productions while they're working on their new ones.

Wild speculation is fun, and tripling down on it is even more fun. I think at this point we've encountered two whole people who managed to net tickets, and they were both handed them by someone else. It's comically poor odds.

I guess I couldn't really tell if that was kidding or not. I don't comment on much of the wild speculation, I just thought to nudge back on that one.

Level 1 Thief posted:

I did finally have to grind for some bait the other day -- at least with turbo mode on weak enemies it doesn't take very long at all.

So in this case, all of Crossbell City updated after the scene where Ilya shows you the note, and as near as I can tell, only Cecile, Estelle and Joshua updated outside of it. The IBC in this video was after that shift and we got a bit confused with the back alley, but w/e.[/spoiler]

Be sure to save a Salmon for Coppe, the quartz you get back is probably one of the most useful ones.

Falcom has some mercy (didn't want to do so much extra work) and usually the areas outside the city do not update.

Alright, so this LP hasn't really been coming together as I'd wanted. We're still enjoying the game, and I'm happy with how the videos have turned out, but working on it has really been starting to drag over time and there's still so much left. I'd been expecting it to run shorter than the CS games, but now we're pushing 60 hours recorded with three full chapters still to go in Zero and unfortunately I'm gonna have to call it.

Fair enough, these are a lot of work, and you shouldn't feel obligated to keep doing it if it's not enjoyable. In my notes to claw game handjob, I had been passing along specific NPC conversations which are interesting, as a way to help cut down on the long rounds of NPC chatter. Falcom definitely cut back a lot more on the NPC dialogue in the Cold Steel games compared to earlier in the series. Cold Steel absolutely had smaller NPC counts, and tried to update dialogue less often.

Zero Chapter 3 is probably the longest chapter with, I believe 5 city dialogue updates and 4 updates for the outskirts, and it took me about 22 hours for all the city/outskirts stuff.

I'm not sure, though, how well switching to a podcast format will work. While talking to NPC's wouldn't be much of a problem, there are a lot of things in the games which are intended for a visual medium and would require a lot of pausing to describe the scene, and there are occasional bits where the action and text happening automatically advances and can't be paused.

- Pearl's fiancee is Scott, yes he really is a bracer, yes he really knows about her, yes they really are engaged.
- The switch from "Gin" to "Yin" happened after Grimwood said it was an Eastern name, therefore everyone started using the Chinese pronunciation.

- Re: Yin's supposed immortality - Dread Pirate Roberts is probably on the right track, if I'm remembering correctly.
- There was mention of a legend of white-colored Divine Wolves. I don't recall the legend mentioning they talked.
- It's obvious that Cao Lee was not even trying to pretend that he doesn't know about Calvard's favorite assassin. It seems to me that Randy was right - Heiyue sees the cops and SSS as so little of a threat that Cao could smugly come right up to the line without crossing over into an actual admission which could be used in court. Cao is also smart enough to know that the police coming by to ask him means they already suspect the connection anyway.
- I'm pretty sure Lloyd had to tell Cao about the threat letter to explain why he's visiting, and he asked questions about Yin, so even if Lloyd didn't show Cao the signature, it's not an unreasonable assumption for Cao to make.
- It's true that Heiyue knows what Lloyd knows, but Dudley is still correct that it's good practice to at least make sure to be out of immediate earshot of the building.
- Re: Dudley mentioning foreign intelligence agencies: Dudley wasn't calling Yin, Revache, or Heiyue foreign intelligence agencies or working for them, he was explaining that it's the responsibility of the First Division to keep tabs on foreign intelligence agencies, in addition to their other law enforcement responsibilities. In fact, I think that they're the closest thing Crossbell has to an Intelligence Division.

- If this was Trails in the Sky FC, the window for obtaining the book wouldn't be that long.
- Trails loves its maids who are so utterly (and unhealthily) devoted to serving their master that they never reach self-actualization.
- Odds for cooking are definitely lower in this game than Cold Steel, even taking into consideration the lack of unique dishes (because there aren't enough different cooks). There's also the "Failure" outcome which no longer exists in Cold Steel.
- There are only three points in the game where you have to choose a single party member to go with Lloyd for something. One was the prologue boss battle, the other two are near the end of Chapter 3 and right after Chapter 3 ends. If you pick Tio for either, she'll probably end up being the one whose ending you get. To be honest I found Tio's ending to be the least interesting. Randy's is both the most interesting and has actual backstory which you can't see elsewhere. Elie's ending is fine, somewhere in the middle.

- Some character reminisces in Zero/Azure do get Sepia flashbacks, but Elie does not.
- Randy would absolutely NOT have said "if you run away, you're just your Dad."
- "I definitely want to hear about Randy's dark past." You should definitely take Randy for the next two events which make you choose so you get his ending.
- I am sad to announce the death of Lloyd's romantic self-awareness. It was with us in this world only about 10-ish hours, but it will live on in our memories.
- Standing up animations arrive in Cold Steel 3.
- Ailment protection can also be found at the weapon shop.
- Combo Crafts are really strong. They only appear in the Zero/Azure games, likely because as the cast size increases, the difficulty of coming up with unique moves quickly gets out of control.

- I don't know who the Thunder Bringer or Ocean Crasher are.
- Re: Derek's Ominous Food Stall: Things don't necessarily have to go wrong for them to be mentioned. Sometimes it's just background for NPC's to say because the dialogue has to update a lot.
- Kienz is the son of Dr. Gailey, head of Surgery at St. Ursula. So yes, one of the hallway brawlers
- Even a single Enigma unit is well out of the price range the delinquents can afford, never mind enough for all of them.
- Flash grenades are probably more within the price range of the delinqents.
- The Moonlight Butterflies recipe is learned pretty late in the game.
- I don't think Abbas is blind. Other blind characters get acknowledged as such. I think Falcom just liked Morpheus's pince-nez sunglasses.

Yes, talking to the NPC's in the game can be an issue because the size is so large. Falcom refines the formula of the games as they go on, and one thing which got refined after Crossbell was more consistency in dialogue updates, and reducing the amount of times you have essentially the entire world available for which dialogue updates are needed. It does still happen, but usually only in Finale chapters instead of 80% of the game like Zero/Azure.

- There were definitely a few choice NPC interactions here. I liked Lloyd getting information out of the bartender at Garante.
- The prison is right beside the police academy. Yeah, it's strange, but I don't think they wanted to make an additional road dungeon section. They're both the dot at the bottom. The one just south of the road is the gate leading into Knox Road.
- The dot on the left is Garellia Fortress. The one on the right is Altair city.
- Presumably spies caught attempting to travel from Erebonia into Calvard (or the other way around) are sent back to the country they came from, I don't think they just keep them all, although the prison IS bizarrely spacious for a place where foreign nationals don't really get jailed for many crimes.
- Randy's reputation for being good at combat is not hot air.
- I think Randy lied about being fired for being a womanizer possibly because giving the real reason would make people ask more questions which he'd rather not answer.
- Dahlia is referring to a different incident. The event from Cold Steel 1's prologue remains in the future.
- Not all maids and butlers are ninjas, it's just rare enough to be surprising when it actually happens. Take Lila from Sky, or any of the hotel maids, or Jusis's butler Arnaud, or the MacDowell estate staff - all normal.
- YOU CAN WALK INTO ILYA'S APARTMENT NOW? I didn't know that! Wow, I've never seen that place so clean.
- Dudley asking about "possible ties" is not unreasonable. He's the one asking questions, it's good practice to seem to know less than you do, and to not be inadvertently giving out what you do know by what you say when gathering information. I have no doubt Dudley talks to the Garante bartender, he has other contacts as well.
- Summon Zeit can do two things, a no-damage debuff (which does nothing once many enemies start being immune to everything) and damage + AT Delay. It can't fail, but sometimes you just can't use it at all.
- Poor Gaius. He gets a bird, but all everyone can remember was that Kloe already did the bird companion bit much better.
- How do I not rememeber the dance?
- Colin is 5.
- I think Harold is probably in Mainz.

- I'm not sure whether crystalization is a "real" disease in-universe or not (but I presume yes), since it's never come up outside of this novel.
- Indeed, Rosenberg studio is involved with many of the special effects used in Arc-en-Ciel productions.
- The First Division would likely be Crossbell's CIA if they had enough of a budget for it. They do keep tabs on all kinds of international stuff, but I don't think they go outside Crossbell State very much.
- There's also Emma the hotel maid in Zeiss who has too much energy.
- Ernest is at least 10 years older than Elie, and I don't think he has romantic feelings for her.
- I don't think Grace would get much out of Dudley, he's too sharp. She'd quickly get bored and leave.
- There are achievements for getting a million mira in the series, and your inventory definitely holds much more than that. They're not hard, you just get to the late game and trade in all your sepith, which should put you over the top. If not, sell your non-equipped quartz.
- The Crois sprites are certainly at least strawberry-blonde.
- Many character introductions start with the character at 11 before toning it down to more reasonable levels, to give a stronger impression. Mariabell does tone it down in future appearances, but I did not like her from her initial impression. Whether that was the intent of the writers or not, I leave to your imagination.
- I have no idea what Mariabell's mother is like, she's never mentioned, much like a lot of mothers in the series.
- There's an important quote from Trails in the Sky FC about justice:
-- Aina: ...There are as many forms of justice as there are stars in the heavens.

Rabbi Raccoon posted:

Ugh, Mariabell. Easily my least favorite character from the series for a whole list of reasons I won't get into. I can handle "evil and malicious" far better than I can handle "obnoxious"

I'm not a fan of her either, but I can think of several other characters I dislike more than her. She's not even my least favorite character from this game.

After March rolled around, I sincerely had expected that 28 was going to be the last video.

- Elliot can't do that. The key word used was "Aeon system," which is something Tio has specifically.
- "Is this a server or a coffin?" I can kinda see the resemblance to a coffin, but I think it's just decoration.
- Crossbell's diet has become pretty partisan and deadlocked in recent years, cutting the number of laws which actually get passed a lot. That combined with the fact that the orbal network is still in the testing stage is one reason why laws against hacking haven't passed yet.
- There were only new scenes with Grace and Ernest because they were coming out of the IBC when the plot sent the SSS in.
- It's pretty funny having Shion say "be careful with that key, we've lost it a few times already," because spoiler alert - Lloyd never gets around to returning it.
- The trick with speed-running is not just bee-lining for the fastest mandatory stuff possible, but knowing what optional stuff you can get which ultimately will help you beat the game faster.

- At least one of those locked doors in the start of Geofront B is for (more trivia than spoiler) the NG+ only bonus dungeon. It's not recommended for a first-time playthrough because the enemies inside give so much XP it'll unbalance the intended difficulty for the final chapter.
- Pom Pom Party is a real minigame (beginning in Azure) which I'm told is a clone of someting called Puyo Puyo.

Admiral H. Curtiss posted:

I really despise this minigame and I really hope they won't bring it back in any more games. It's like a bad combination of Panel de Pon and Puyo Puyo (which are both great puzzle games!) that completely misses the point of either, and on top of that it's extremely colorblind-unfriendly because all tiles are only differentiated by color.

And yes, I realize that you can't expect a minigame in a giant JRPG to have the same level of depth as an actual standalone puzzle game but ugh, it just feels impossible to set up any intentional combos in it and that pulls the entire fun out of this type of game.

It sincerely feels like victory or defeat is entirely luck-based - regardless of the supposed escalating difficulty of your opponents. In one game, you can pull off a bunch of excellent clears and build up points and drop lots of blocks on your opponent... to no effect, yet in another game, you can struggle through and bumble, not getting much cleared at all, only to unexpectedly be greeted with the victory screen.
