Yay an update. Looking forward to watching after work.

Grey, thanks for making SoylentPudding a pilot.

If you're accepting build requests I'd prefer a brawler or juggernaut if that works for the lance. I think that's the right terminology, but basically the moves and hits like and tough as a brick style.

Three more missions, I take our founder out to beat up a noblemans kid, and we babysit some green pilots.

We’re about done with this world, so we need to choose another one - this is a half skull world - so do we go for a one skull or a one and a half skull world?

Also, is there any direction we want to be heading?

How much time would it take us to get to a 1 skull word? If it's a lot, I would say go for a closer 1.5 one.

Go towards Rasalhague! They always need good and proper help.
A 1 Skull world would be fine, from what I know of the mod it really ramps up quickly and kicks your teeth in if you overreach.
Oh, and XP wise, as a long-term aim, put me (Vedette) up to 4 in all stats before any abilities, please, then there's enough room for flexibility to spec me later to fit the lance's needs.

That last fight was exactly what I'd hoped for my pilot, up close kicking teeth in and tanking hits instead of the gun line.

Put Vedette up to Gunnery, Guts and Tactics 4 please!
(And as said on YT, this is why Hetzers are to be feared even if they're "only a vehicle"... still got an AC/20 onboard.)

The lack of action economy from only running three mechs starting hurting pretty fast there. Lots of fun to see Soylent stomping around on the vehicles on that first mission.

For Soylent I think I'd like focusing on piloting and guts.

I sucked at this game when I played it. Is it better to get Soylent up to base 4 by taking those two points in tactics or is it better to continue specializing into either the piloting or guts level 5 ability once I have the XP?

Also does it matter which level 5 ability of the two I pick first?

Tactics has some good stuff higher up the tree, but lower down its more about indirect fire.

the level 5 abilities are all useful, depending on how you want to run, so there are no real bad picks.

Thanks! I think I'll stick with piloting and guts until we get to the point where low tactics is a problem.

That first mission is why (IMO) you always throw even a bit of fire at every enemy mech on an escort mission in Battletech as soon as they appear. I'm fairly sure landing even a single chip damaging hit is the only way to force enemy mechs to shoot back at you in this mission - otherwise they will just hound the escort targets non-stop (see the Crab, which wasn't engaged until after it killed an APC).

(Also gently caress yeah, I do like the Crab. See I wouldn't grumble about piloting one of those, just saying...)

Second mission; man, I had totally forgotten that there was a Vedette vehicle in Battletech canon... ah well. Least it was an easy one.

Third mission: dear god boss get me out of this thing I spent four turns doing nothing but walking up a HILL

As for further promotions, give Vedette Guts 5 and Bulwark please, if you're sticking me in an armoured coffin it might as well be a sturdier armoured coffin.

Oof that was rough. :rip:

It feels like that mission was meant for at least one heavier mech on the player side too.

Does the game have an evac mechanic where if things go to complete poo poo you can try to pull the squad out? Or are the only options to go down fighting or reload?

Yeah, you can either get to the evac point if you’ve completed the main objective ( but that’s normally through the remaining Opfor) or there is a withdraw button that instantly ends the mission, but using that normally means you lose all salvage, most of your pay and take a big reputation hit with whatever faction your working for. In vanilla Battletech the better your rep with a faction, the better the missions you get offered and you hit max rep you gain access to the faction store where all the good poo poo is sold.

If you complete at least one main objective you can "good faith" withdraw for only a minor hit as well. I forget if BEX put in the "walk your rear end to an evac point" feature though (that nearly every time puts the evac directly behind the giant robots murdering you).

Let's try that mission again - the RNG can't shaft me twice, can it?

I think it’s time to move on - but where - There are a few options in the Taurian Concordat.

Or we can push into the Federated Suns.

Look, I'm supposed to be the named but vaguely useless person who gets mulched early to demonstrate that Important Characters Can Die, and that everyone mourns for five seconds before getting on with things. It's not my fault I'm not dead yet, I was supposed to be out for an early lunch a long time ago.

Does the "Rich" trait for a planet mean the possibility of better loot to steal from the locals mission payouts? Because that makes Ishtar look tempting.
