As great as the design behind Double-Tap is, it really has trouble hitting anything. Are there any components you can buy that can help with that? Also goddamn the game loves throwing tons of medium-small enemies at you. Why can’t it just throw one or two heavies instead?

More gunnery and Guts I think is the way to go for autocannons. Using basically the same set of mods, I had the game hand me a Warhammer with only a Wasp escort. So it can happen. The issue I had is that on around 3 skulls, missions went like the first one, where I was facing two lances of roughly equal strength to mine at the same time. Which is Not Fun (tm)

I think the lesson here is that the 1st McCarron's Armored Cavalry is officially sick of your poo poo. Maybe you should travel to an entirely different part of the Inner Sphere, which would also possibly give you more mech variety.

After you deal with the crippling heat sink shortage, it might be worth swapping one ML on the Griffin for one. You're almost always dropping one for heat as it is.

When you get a chance to build a mech or mechs, you can mouseover the names of the options to see what you can build. Useful when you have multiple chassis choices with different hardpoint loadouts.

Oh man, the Two Skull Comstar ambush mission! One of my favorites that the mod adds. I've taken them on with two lances of tricked out assaults and heavies and come out battered, but the rewards are worth it. You can tell what it is when Darius mentions Alpha Lance has sent new coordinates in the initial preamble on the slider screen, but the fun part is the names of the units involved. Agamemnon being the typical mercenary-dismissive recurring ally in the base game, here he does a face-heel turn with the entire Trojan War team, namely Achilles, Odysseus and Menelaus piloting the mechs that go pirate with him, whilst your allies are Aegisthus and Clytemnestra, Agamemnon's 'Welcome Home' posse in Homer's epic.

Oh, wow, you weren't kidding about XP. Give Vedette II (me) Gunnery 8 first, then Piloting 4. In the event there's enough left over afterwards, also give me Tactics 4 please, might as well start being a bit more all rounded once all 3 abilities are locked in.

Using that AC/20 as a can opener really seems to be leveling the playing field. I'm not sure you would have made it out of some of those missions intact without opening gaping holes quickly.
