Nearly all of the "Biden can't win again" articles assume a straight-up election when there's bound to be a lot of weird fuckery before the general even starts. Could be rando richfucks on the democratic side. Could be a rando richfuck that runs as Indy. DeSantis could out-fascist Donnie in the primary and get the nomination. Donnie could get pissed about that and run as Indy to blow the party up. Or Donnie wins and DeSantis decides to sabotage that campaign.

We're still in the phase where we don't even know what to really worry about.

To be clear, I understand the poo poo show that must be going on to require such limits. Just curious about why THAT.

Twitter needs revenue, very very badly. Most social media sites do that by getting revenue from companies in some way or another. Failing to get ads, they're taking a page from every other social site and offering additional functionality to the paid accounts

... except the additional functionality is just poo poo removed earlier. Social sites usually give the paid accounts first dibs on new features - twitter is now giving feature dibs on new first. It's all mangled and from a viewpoint that the companies are stealing money/value from twitter, versus said companies basically creating the content that makes twitter A Thing.

Employees showed Musk internal data regarding engagement with his account, along with a Google Trends chart. Last April, they told him, Musk was at “peak” popularity in search rankings, indicated by a score of “100.” Today, he’s at a score of nine. Engineers had previously investigated whether Musk’s reach had somehow been artificially restricted, but found no evidence that the algorithm was biased against him.

Musk did not take the news well.

From what a lot of news articles are saying, you can simply get way more data than with a satellite. A typical satellite moves at around 7000 MPH, while the balloons might hit 60 MPH. Shove high tech sensors and comms equipment on a balloon and it's likely to get way better quality data and a lot more of it.

Highly likely the Chinese had some balloons and random drone-like loitering surveillance in the air for a long time. NORAD people were probably like "uh... why the gently caress didn't we see that", tuned their filters, and started finding slow, car-sized poo poo that was probably around for a while. China can continue to figure out our general response times, what kind of poo poo we scramble/try to shoot down their stuff with (and if it works), and most importantly, the poo poo they have in the air that we still can't detect. Lots of intel value in all of that.
