Tiny Timbs posted:I don’t know that “younger voters are saying” is really an indicator of anything meaningful. People were yelling about how he was too old and nothing would change last time, too. Nearly all of the "Biden can't win again" articles assume a straight-up election when there's bound to be a lot of weird fuckery before the general even starts. Could be rando richfucks on the democratic side. Could be a rando richfuck that runs as Indy. DeSantis could out-fascist Donnie in the primary and get the nomination. Donnie could get pissed about that and run as Indy to blow the party up. Or Donnie wins and DeSantis decides to sabotage that campaign. We're still in the phase where we don't even know what to really worry about.

Even among people I consider moderates, honestly. https://twitter.com/edsbs/status/1620874876109352961?t=8W1lGjNbhFkruwYDl734kQ&s=19 Spencer Hall (and the military dude in the background) know that he's a gently caress. People that like the idea of DeSantis haven't actually heard/seen the real DeSantis. Or they like that he's banning books while yammering about face diapers and jab juice.

I generally don't agree with much of the takes making GBS threads on Democrats, but holy gently caress they're the worst on court capture. From the Supreme Court to the chudgy circuits - their solution is basically vote harder and shrug about it.

I posted the balloon thing as a "lol look at this dumb thing" type of item. I really should've known it would consume about 100% of the newsmedia oxygen with every dumbass with access to a television saying I THINK WE SHOULD SHOOT IT DOWN and now it's a full national security/diplomatic incident. I couldn't give less of a gently caress. Call me when some idiot tries to shoot it and the tumbling bullet puts a hole in something.

latest republican nonsense is that the military "disobeyed China Joe's order for three days because he's that much of a joke" The actual details here are pretty amazing because estimates were blowing up the balloon was like dropping three school buses worth of debris from the sky. And apparently, every country gets 12 miles of shoreline before it turns into international waters, so really impressive planning and timing here: https://twitter.com/DavidJUrban/status/1622040107732664320

LtCol J. Krusinski posted:It’s this. You don’t win these idiots over. And for the love of god never engage them sincerely and honestly. There’s no point. Just loving dunk on them like it’s the school yard and your in 7th grade again. Eventually nature will sort poo poo out, but cogent, honest, sincere, informed dialogue? Donald goddamned Trump. I've basically fallen back onto this option. Basically, in general life, you don't want to know people that have the ability to whatabout / sunk cost fallacy themselves into oblivion because at some point, you'll probably be on the negative end of that when you do something that may/may not actually exist in real life. General exception for coworkers and family members, with the added exception if they're actually good people. Once you get into fever swampy whataboutism stuff, there's not really much convincing that can be done. ASAPI posted:These tweet limits seem rather high. Wouldn't this only really cause issues with brand/customer service and bot accounts? Twitter needs revenue, very very badly. Most social media sites do that by getting revenue from companies in some way or another. Failing to get ads, they're taking a page from every other social site and offering additional functionality to the paid accounts ... except the additional functionality is just poo poo removed earlier. Social sites usually give the paid accounts first dibs on new features - twitter is now giving feature dibs on new first. It's all mangled and from a viewpoint that the companies are stealing money/value from twitter, versus said companies basically creating the content that makes twitter A Thing. As Daddy Elon is still polarizing the hell out of his brands too https://twitter.com/AOC/status/1623474864664330240

Mustang posted:Lmao Desantis is doomed, Trump is going to drag his name through the mud for the next 2 years. And if DeSantis somehow ends up winning he's going to get absolutely blitzed on Social Security and Medicare/caid. Donnie's already testing out "I will never cut Olds Insurance, DeSanctimonious voted for cuts!" but he's probably too dumb to make it stick. Give that same line of attack to a Democratic president stuck in the 90s and DeSantis is going to yell about gas stoves and girls while getting obliterated by Olds Insurance ads.

After years of telling their base that Donald Trump is a deity made flesh and bone for 6 years, they have to somehow convince said base that Donnie is a lying loser who lost to Dementia Joe. Don't think that's going to fly with 50% of Republicans!

CommieGIR posted:I'll still don't get it: Why balloons? China has to have decent Spy satellites and Radar Recon satellites by now, Balloons while cheap are 1950s era recon stuff. Its lower tech than a spy plane. From what a lot of news articles are saying, you can simply get way more data than with a satellite. A typical satellite moves at around 7000 MPH, while the balloons might hit 60 MPH. Shove high tech sensors and comms equipment on a balloon and it's likely to get way better quality data and a lot more of it. And - Pence has at least one more classified document in his house. That scandal sure fizzled quick. https://twitter.com/jdawsey1/status/1624130851456880666 Edit: k maybe not a balloon https://twitter.com/JarrettRenshaw/status/1624132370017226754 facialimpediment fucked around with this message at 20:56 on Feb 10, 2023 |

My Spirit Otter posted:what the gently caress is even happening Highly likely the Chinese had some balloons and random drone-like loitering surveillance in the air for a long time. Our systems are probably set up to find fast-moving poo poo (jetliners, missiles) instead, then the Chinese lost control of their balloon. NORAD people were probably like "uh... why the gently caress didn't we see that", tuned their filters, and started finding slow, car-sized poo poo that was probably around for a while. And it's not exactly in China's interest to suddenly pull back their previously-undetected poo poo.

Hyrax Attack! posted:Wait why wouldn’t it be in China’s interest to stop using them if they are being regularly shot down, especially after air defenses are tuned to find them? Seems pointless to keep violating airspace if they aren’t getting useful data, and would continue to increase tensions and not make China look great. China can continue to figure out our general response times, what kind of poo poo we scramble/try to shoot down their stuff with (and if it works), and most importantly, the poo poo they have in the air that we still can't detect. Lots of intel value in all of that. Plus, Biden was making noises that all of this was being done without President Xi's knowledge, so it could be superhardliners that really want to increase the tensions in the first place. Really not about looking great at this point.
