I read it as a kid and didn’t remember any of that. If someone had edited that poo poo out at some point I would never have known it was missing and it would probably be a better book. same. Didn't make it far in that book. Definitely not his strongest work. I don't get the proposed edits. Why replace a reference to Joseph Conrad and Rudyard Kipling?? read matilda to my kid just the other week. Good stuff

There were a few gratuitously sexist and nasty descriptions of Matilda's mom that i glossed over when reading it to my 8 year old.syntaxfunction posted:People still know who Jane Austen and Ernest Hemingway are, unlike Conrad and Kipling. They should probably replace author names with those of popular influencers
