Sea lions, fur seals, and walruses may not be true seals but they're still pretty cool. Me and my brother both have stories of them scaring the poo poo out of us. My brother was at a dive shop in Washington state asking about local conditions ahead of his first dive in the area and was told to watch out because a rather large shark had recently been seen in the area, so he was a bit on edge when he went into the water but his dive went smoothly up until he felt a tug on his flipper. He briefly panicked before turning around and looking into the face of a sea lion playing with his feet. For me, when I was a kid I went on a fishing trip with my parents to the Sacramento River Delta, one of their favorite places to visit. They'd rented a small pontoon boat and we'd been out on the water all day when my dad noticed the motor was acting up a bit so he asked me to pull it out of the water and check to see if the propeller was clogged with weeds. I was bent over and had reached down to pull the weeds out of the rotors when I saw something big and black looming out of the water right next to my face. I jumped back away from the water and a full grown male California sea lion came up for air maybe a foot away from where I'd just been, scared the hell out of me.

sake, to wash it down this seal is named billy, from the hakone-en aquarium. i think he's still doing the sake thing, although most photos are taken from 2009. seals do, after all, live longer than dogs.

I used to work at the submarine base in Washington, which is thousands of acres of forest with a few piers and buildings on it. The Sea Lions love to sun themselves on the fantails of the boats, because they slope gently into the water, and are painted black, I've seen as many as two dozen sea lions chilling on a single boat, and you can hear them barking from easily half a mile away. That and the regular feeding of the attack dolphins always brought a smile to my face.

I was in California and came across a colony of awesome elephant seals. Some of the young males were sparring. Later they took it to the water.  Other seals were not impressed.
