Went to Brighton to the tattoo convention over the weekend. Looked for poop tomatoes, couldn't find any. Lots of very drunk, angry, fighty people, loads of homeless people and eye-wateringly expensive food though. Which I assume is the default state of seaside towns at the moment. Was all a bit sad and depressing. Also the default state of seaside towns in the off season. Bought some rock. Got a lovely tattoo and discovered that my Romanian tattooists idea of "not drinking" is to only buy 16 cans of beer to take back to the hotel. I also am fat and cannot eat less cake or exercise more and it blows.

I'm reminded for some reason of a political comedy drama from 1998 called In The Red, with Richard Griffiths playing a down and out politician where he punches a guy with a bomb during some swanky dinner then goes on to win the election as a new third party called the Reform Party. I'm not sure why. It just... Yeah I wish we lived in that reality instead of becoming America where all options are poo poo. Mebh fucked around with this message at 01:11 on Mar 3, 2023 |

That article filled me with a boiling rage. Rich cunts selling their london flat to buy a "£2-4 million" country house then having conniptions that they have to pay a gardener £35 an hour for weeding. gently caress all the way off with your ponies and your Aga. I hope you drive into a field filled with silage.

Met my new neighbour today when they came round to apologise for their grandchild "Theodore" raining small military men with parachutes into my rhubarb patch from the bathroom window. "He shan't be allowed to play with those outdoors again! " But why? It was quite amusing and meant I got to check the rhubarb and I've got loads under the buckets. Crumble time tomorrow!

I hear this argument so loving often. I can't deny its seductive. As someone who was an idiot liberal child the last time labour came to power, you go down the rabbit hole thinking what an actual competent left wing govt that plays the game to get into power then goes turbo socialism might look like. If you squint really hard, I can see how a lot think that might be Starmer. It's certainly a lot more palatable fantasy than the actual reality. Then it just devolves into looking at policy, and not being drawn into a "cult of personality" because that would be bad you see. Corbyn was a cult you see. If you then point out how poo poo the policies are, so far its just been a "lalala" fingers in ears "labour are less poo poo what else you going to do" endless loop and I'm just tired of it.

I got him confused with Jeremy Kyle. Stupid question. I'm earning enough to be decently paying off my student loan now, it should be paid off in about 7 years (i know, guillotine) I also have a mortgage with 18 years on it that is fixed for 4 more years (double guillotine) I'm assuming any extra overpayment I should sink into my mortgage as much as possible and ignore the student loan since its pre-tax. Whereas other debts are after tax. I'm also trying to work out how to not be utterly hosed if I'm ever able to retire. (triple guillotine) It's looking like since I'm basically starting now aged 40 i need to salary sacrifice an absurd amount (22%?) to be ok by 68. Does that seem right? We had a fun financial planning thing at work where they spent the first half telling us how likely we were to die before retiring, then said oh hey but if you survive, how about a pension! Then they caused a riot by explaining how lovely life insurance was regarding existing conditions. Fun week.. Mebh fucked around with this message at 11:58 on Apr 1, 2023 |

I am loving the trend of superhero, but not really, movies making a comeback again from the 80s. Stuff like RRR, fast and furious and john wick having their heroes joust with motorbikes, drift horses, fall four stories unharmed onto a van or pull a gunship out of the sky with their biceps (technically hobbes and shaw) i realise RRR is it's own beast, but it strikes the same chord with me. They're just so dumb, silly and enjoyable. Really a great antidote to seeing pictures from today's Keir Starmer interview on LBC on every digital billboard in Sheff with a promise to crack down on antisocial behaviour.

It was a revelation moving from London to Germany and there being signal on the u-bahn everywhere. That and how goddamn clean it was. I'm doing a lot of ethnography analysis at work, looking at the gaming habits and lifestyle of kids across the world. Trying to add socioeconomic status in as a variable and arguing for reduction in prices to make things more avaliable to those less fortunate has people looking at me like I'm insane. Like. Game economies are mostly lawless, unfettered capitalism and its just soul crushing having idiots in charge turn all the dials to 11 because they want to hit a quarterly target. Then acting all surprised face when the players all gently caress off and don't come back. I don't really have a point. It's just been a poo poo week at work arguing, winning arguments, then watching them do nothing anyway because lol.

Pretty much this. Plus everything they say is projection. If they had a say they absolutely would push their own ideas to intentionally indoctrinate children. The fact they always accuse their opposition of doing the things they want to is indicative of the fact they can't envisage a world where everyone doesn't think like them. Fact that they can also acknowledge that their own thinking is bad is quite impressive. Probably some greater good bollocks. I'm waiting for that to be the next line as to why we're making murder camps for refugees. Because in 50 years we'll have to deal with a billion of them as we wrecked the climate!

Its like Labour think they've found the antisemitism scandal for the right. I'm just amazed. Given minorities and those without power being utterly hosed by the justice system since time immemorial. With decades and decades of proof and entire social movements coming about because of it and massive institutional scandals about racism, sexism, and bigotry of all kinds being factually endemic in the police. The public has never been more aware that "throw more people in jail" does not work, has never worked and will never work. They decide THIS is the time to dig their heels in. What the gently caress. How are they this dumb? As said above Bastani is a bit melty, but downstream had Ash on it and was pretty good yesterday. https://youtu.be/oz3pqVHZZ5M Pretty much rightly points the finger at the centrists and the media as the actual problem. Plus some good behind the scenes stories of how insanely deranged they can be.

Sure that'd be nice for everyone, but also I think that's beyond overkill? It does seem paying into my pension is by far the best return on my savings. Providing I don't just randomly die. Yeah, despite all its faults, the UK is still one of the best places in the world to live. Which is why we drink. The people still in the Labour party on the left are not very impressive are they? Just desperately insisting they can only change it from the inside while showing none of the traits the left is supposed to hold like solidarity, collective action etc. They sure are good at accidentally saying really loving dumb things though! In other local politics news!! I just got my local election postal vote stuff. Last time it was 1700 votes to labour 600 conservative and 200 anyone else. Labour is running a midwife this time instead of gammington man from last year. They shoved a leaflet through my door this morning and ran away before I could get to the door. It's all banal local library politics with some right noises on creating jobs plus a bit about trying to heat council properties with district heating like in Gateshead. Then of course an entire section on tackling antisocial behaviour in the local park. Oh no, the youths that burnt a bin there 2 years ago are still living rent free in everyone's minds. I walk through it regularly and I've no idea what the curtain twitchers on about. Maybe its me! At least they mention trying to talk to the rest of the council on getting more youth service after talking about more cops. Not that it'll happen with the massive shortfall in council funding. Though they'll happily pay to completely renovate one side of my mums house so she can get a new door and wheelchair ramp fitted after they gave her a fancy new wheelchair that didn't fit through the front door... Other voting options are... Green party man. This year he has a whole two paragraphs about him if you specifically google him. Someone called Josh Crapper for the TUSC party. Founded by Bob Crow in 2010 they seem pretty decent? Encouraging the greens to not run against Corbyn. They've never won anything and I can see why as this is the entire online presence of their candidate. The lib dem, you can't find anything about them either and same for the Conservatives. Its just... Whats the loving point? Labour are the only ones running someone with a loving face. Let alone policies and a web presence. All the other candidates just link to the national websites.
