I have a theory that semicolons are underutilized because they look ugly, and are often assumed to be typos, even though they were intended. They’d probably be used more, if it weren’t for its repugnance. The name is also stupid, and unoriginal, making it a forgettable form of punctuation. I wish someone would declare a new symbol and name that would be officially adopted in English language, but I don’t see that happening anytime soon.

That’s probably one of the only good uses for it, and likely it’s been used that way 50,000x more than its intended use.

I think it's a silly and inaccurate name. Commalon or colom should replace it. Because, technically, a "semi" colon should be half of a colon, and thus, a period/dot/full-stop. While a colon's upper dot would also fufil this criteria, no one uses that character because it would break the seals and cause the end of days.
