I think it is also worth reiterating how hard Russia shat the bed overall, even if Putin snaps his fingers and all Ukrainian resistance vanishes.

You have a poo poo-rear end war with a bunch of people and equipment destroyed/captured that will take a lot of time and money to replace, greatly stifling the threat of Russia doing this again, at least in the short term
you have a domestic economy ruined via sanctions which aren't going away any time soon(the reverse/deindustrialization comment by economists) on top of a bunch of people running away from Russia and likely won't return, as well as everybody who gets drafted and dies is one less person making pizzas or teaching algebra or researching new types of concrete etc
you have Sweden and Finland (eventually) becoming NATO members so NATO's influence is expanding instead of Russia's
you have united a whole bunch of countries actively taking measures against Russia by refusing to do business with Russia and/or giving more aid to Ukraine on top of slowly weening themselves off of Russian energy, Russia's biggest/most lucrative market.
Plus who is gonna buy Russian hardware when most of it has gotten destroyed/captured in Ukraine, and whatever is in reserve is probably all skimmed-off-the-top to death.
No loving way Ukraine is also going to stop and roll over on any of Russia's terms that doesn't start with recreating the 2014 maps and going from there

Even in the worst case scenario of Russia somehow engulfing most of Ukraine with dominant military victories I really, really don't see what beneficial things Putin accomplished other than misery for its own sake in an attempt to chase the dream of a long-gone empire like the world never advanced beyond the year 1762 or whatever.

I have a hundred of these but here are a couple of my favorites:

In basic training we had a guy named Jackson who talked baby talk. The best way I can describe his accent was he sounded like Elmer Fudd, "ok gwuis we ish gonna go do dis ting".
He managed to get a hold of bug spray one of the night in basic and I remember him soaking the burlap strips on his helmet the before we climbed into our Bivvys. I mean he was loving dousing that poo poo.
The next day we are standing in the hot sun on a range and he is giving the stink eye to this string hanging loose in his face away from the rest of his burlap. After a moment he pulls out a pack of mre matches and tries to burn away that string. A second later his whole loving helmet lights up with flames.

It's so hard to adequately describe how funny the next few seconds were. First he stared straight ahead with this dumb look on his face trying to figure out what had just happened. Then he starts running back and forth failing to get his helmet off, tugging at the chin strap screaming "MY BURWAP IS ON FIYAH! MY BURWAP IS ON FIYAH!" The drill sergeants all run over to him and right as they get there he manages to get his helmet off but as he threw it to the ground he kicks it, it rolls across the range and lights the field on fire. The drill sgts and the rest of us were all laughing to hard to put it out so when we all finally stopped hyperventilating we had to evacuate the range.

The second story is one of my favorites because the kid is a good friend and a good soldier but drat could he be dumb on some things. Edge came back on base one day bragging about how he had gotten a new truck. He said he walked into the dealership, told them what he wanted, got what he wanted and then walked out the same day. I said, let me see your paperwork... Followed by, "MOTHERFUCKER YOU BOUGHT A TRUCK WITH TWENTY SIX PERCENT INTEREST RATE??? we are taking this poo poo back right now".

Trenches and machine guns and especially artillery loving everywhere, chemical attacks(white phosphorous dumped on the mauripol azovsteel plant), that one story not that long ago of people fighting each other with shovels, human wave attacks doing gently caress all, huge supply and morale problems/attrition, a few dumb rich fucks circlejerking as far from the violence as possibly while countless ranks of (mostly) poorly trained and equipped men march to their deaths, a whole of bunch of tanks stuck in mud plus digging up older and shittier equipment out of sheer necessity, maybe even the mobile incinerators substituting as flamethrowers...the only thing missing is a sea of barbed wire though that's probably compensated with all of the drones putting a twist on things.

Honestly i'll believe it when I see it happening. It's too early to tell if he'd just cut his losses and leave, because there's bound to be consequences for that. As for the ammo talk, there's shortages everywhere across the line, tons of the stuff just gets destroyed and at least half of what arrives is useless rust.

Also I think the ammo situation for Wagner was more about "hey we're a PMC or a reasonable facsimile thereof, we have more flexible and meaningful say in OUR equipment instead of adhering to military standards" and then suddenly slashed to achieve parity or be more parallel to the ammo distribution of the rest of the forces.
