Just don't go and don't give a reason. Most people don't care. And the ones that do tend to avoid confrontation, so most of the time you can get away with anything. In your new free time, spend 5 minutes researching ways to make your manager like you more. And spend the rest on your hobbies.

one of the 5 PMs I work with dared to book me for a pre-9am meeting without checking with me first not too long ago I added a daily 7am-9am NO MEETINGS OOO meeting to my calendar, like I already have from 5-7pm blocked for family time, and am already getting heat for it from a bunch of people in the org gently caress them I'm not missing pancake breakfast or walking the kids to school because some optional invite can't attend a daily status
