Sitting in a bar and loving Dave Matthews Band is playing… clearly I gotta do something about this Considering throwing on my current go to track and I figured I might as well learn a little bit about goon’s favorite songs to subject their fellow bar* patrons / alcoholics to BTW, going to spend actual money to hear Big Wet - Turn Up on the Weekend (getting things started early, sue me) *type of bar and overall vibe is obviously a factor in this important decision

My dad used to owned a series of bars from approximately '78 to '91. When it came out Love Shack was played constantly. When it faded from popularity and Dad could take it out, the record was smashed and the pieces hung up in the back room. Needless to say, I'll put if on if there's a jukebox, especially if my dad is there.

Got a rotation I use depending on the vibe of the bar: Queens of the Stone Age - Give the Mule What He Wants Souxsie and the Banshees - Cities in Dust Talking Heads - The Great Curve Steely Dan - Do it Again Waylon Jennings - Lonesome, On’ry and Mean If none of those fit and it’s still a jukebox sort of bar then I’m not sure what I’m doing there at all

Guns of Navarone, op. When I was younger we used to play pool in a lovely bar full of chelsea supporters and put old ska songs on the jukebox and it's impossible to have a bad time doing that. Guns was always my choice. There you go

last time I was at the local dive bar with the boys they had some modern pop country poo poo playing and the lack of an actual jukebox or jukebox-equivalent that we could slam some queensryche or dio into made us sad as hell the fries at that place loving rock though so we stuck out through she think my tractor's sexy and ilk if it's the kind of bar that you can plunk anything into through spotify or whatever I'll throw in something like Queen of the Ryche or Operation Mindcrime or Revolution

a couple years back, friends of mine discovered a nonstop bar (one of these wonderful, now dying czech institutions) which had one of those jukeboxes that was essentially just a reskinned youtube/streaming app. you could also drop a few extra coins in it and bump your song to the top of the queue so we proceeded to blast the bar with a bunch of awesome 80s industrial/postpunk, drowning out the czech butt rock that the regulars had queued up. Nitzer Ebb, Einstürzende Neubauten, die Haut, Nina Hagen, DAF, etc. and then every now and then for good measure, we'd throw in something like "fun house" or "maggot brain". anyway, i highly recommend a varied diet of awesome music, whatever the mode or genre.

One time I went to a bar that had Touchtunes and then when I was about to leave I threw a dollar in and selected Dream Theater - Octavarium Rush - 2112 Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick Pt 1 And then left. I was genuinely surprised that those jukeboxes don’t have a “no songs more than six minutes” setting that’s enabled by default.
