I'm an rear end in a top hat who moved from a Seattle suburb to a mountain in eastern Washington because my job was remote anyway and COL is cheaper.

Met a neighbor today that lives down the road and lives on social security. He has a huge pack of dogs and said that "people up here you either want to hug em or shoot em." His deceased MIL's cabin is for rent for $600/mo if you're interested in also living on a mountain.

I would have never been able to afford owning anything in like a 3 hour range around Seattle. I bought 8 acres of forested land and a single wide trailer with fiber internet and a well already on the property, and support my spouse and myself on one wfh salary. Was a no brainier for my situation.

I was slightly upset as a kid that my parents said no to Disneyland but after growing up I get it. As a parent I think you can make the decision that going to a national park or something is better for your kid then an overpriced mall with rides

from way back, but my TikTok is only marginally like this. things I physically hit the like button on may or may not make it into limited rotation for a short time. that random video clip from saving private Ryan I watched 8 seconds of? that’s now 70% of the videos I’ll see for the rest of the day. then it’s a rotation of golf, Tesla, crypto, gym, truckerlife, etc… and you can only block a certain number of hashtags and it just seems to disregard that anyway. then the rest of it is onlyfans ads because I’m apparently incapable of not looking at a nipple and there goes the feed again even though I’ve never hit the like button on any of those.

In economics news, as someone that’s been shopping for a new commuter car for a while, the used market is pretty clearly coming down. nowhere near pre pandemic levels but it’s happening and cars are sitting even with massive price cuts.

Do you hold and select the "I really don't like this" option to poo poo you don't want on your feed? My tik tok feed is like 99% a combination of cute animal videos, nature stuff, leftie politics, and gay poo poo. If you dislike the sponsored ad stuff you'll also start getting really weird promoted stuff

Regulatory specialist at a prestigious university. My career trajectory basically went retail jobs after graduating during the recession, got an office job writing and reviewing air emissions regulatory reports, IRB work, clinical trial administration.

There's a variation in pay with my job title depending on where you are and how the study funding is, but the path into irb administration is pretty easy at least

is anyone in this thread fighting with their company about remote work? it seems like they strongly encourage you to come in and if you don't, you will be first to get laid off.

They tried to include me in the RTO initiative but I was hired on as fully remote and am states away so it was easily fought. I also basically control a process that's not easily replaceable.
