welp; ADOBE has gone all-in here it seems - cliff notes their model is trained on free or licensed imagery only so no 'art theft' to get you sued when your million dollar ad campaign launches, a simple interface and direct integration into your usual Photoshop/Illustrator workflow. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5cVqYlOpjZs&t=114s I do feel bad for commercial artists here, before you had to buy in to MidJourney or be slightly nerdy and install / tinker with the obtuse Stable Diffusion interface, once publishers get into this it will be a gently caress to get a commission. Of course if you have an exact end result in mind your human artist is still going to be able to feedback and zero in on your ideal result, but this for 95% of book covers / article illustrations? Big oof. edit: this guy is a bit of a fart-huffer where AI stuff is concerned, but its the best breakdown of the stuff in Firefly I could find. drat I haven't used my Stable Diffusion install in like a month (while it runs on my old Titan it's not what you'd call quick) so I haven't read any 'Whats New in AI' news stuff - dipping back into the new tools and I already feel generation-gapped. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcZYsfLOyOw https://www.cloudbooklet.com/draggan-the-ai-powered-image-editing-tool/

You do need a GPU resource with some poke to produce anything over 1024x1024~ish in Stable Diffusion, there is usually at least a 2X upscale tacked on to most processes. Making a better-res version of an image you have already created just be reapplying the prompt you used isn't guaranteed to reproduce the same thing exactly even if you don't change any other inputs, simply for the fact there's more pixels to bounce off each other as it convolves.

I like when folks use Midjourney or SD for a single aesthetic project, you can see where the strengths and weaknesses of the various current image-gens lie when there's a bunch of stuff fitting the same vibe. eg: https://www.instagram.com/toriyamastreet/ None of the image tools can do realistic jewelry yet, it always has that 'overly greebled' look to it. The skin detail and fur on a few of these is probably the best I have seen so far. Also; Man has been careless with a lathe or saw or smth.

Also actually talking about upscalers, the ones for digital arts are insanely good in SD - precisely because they work so well on animes A small selection from another project; Here's last years Topaz Gigapixel AI Upscaler on the 'Art' setting: Vs Stable Diffusion using the 'RealESRGAN_x4plus_anime_6B' upscaler: Now Topaz might have made some big strides with the new version of Gigapixel, but I'm loath to put down the cash to see when SD can give me this for free. Sagebrush posted:i used gigapixel with the latest "very compressed" model and here is the result, on the left. your SD version on the right. Oh yeah the new Gigapixel models are a lot closer to perfect, next time the have a sale / bundle on I'll re-up my license. I also found this (slightly longwinded) comparison of Upscaling tools and they also settled on Gigapixel as their tool of choice https://www.midlibrary.io/midguide/upscaling-ai-art-for-printing Worth spending a coffebreak over, the slider comparisons are usefully set up here. I like the look of the 'Chainner' tool here for it's node-based approach - even though I am firmly in the linear workflow mentality due to using Photoshop for twenty years, I can see node-based is hugely more flexible if built correctly and you have the time to learn it.

This guy here is probably the most consistent quality 'realistic' output I have seen recently, and it's quite frankly crazy how close some of the work gets to 'absolutely indistinguishable' from a high-concept photo shoot: https://www.instagram.com/franckgerardart/ One of the things about this account is the output is actually photo processed like it was a real photo instead of just dumping the prompt output to publish, and it makes a huge difference. Now I know there's going to be someone ugh oh I saw a slightly wonky finger in a single picture there your entire argument is invalid, you just go right on with that vibe. Picked this one in particular as one of the 'tells' still reliable-ish is spectacle/sunglasses shapes are still often wonky, and here that's 99% not the case: Things like glasses & jewelry, hands, hair detail that used to be more likely than not be gotchas for AI generated pictures doesn't seem to be the case nearly as often now - still not 100% but you can see the trend.
