i have been screwing around with some ai upscaling tools and i gotta say -- as long as you're okay with the results being hallucinated rather than literally true, they are getting shockingly good.

for instance i found this cool hand painted dutch safety poster that i wanna put up in the shops, but it was 600x800.

upscaled 600% to 3600x4800, large enough to print tabloid size at 300 dpi, full size comparison:

poo poo is crazy.

yeah. fortunately the text is something you can easily replace by hand as long as it's readable.

but the rest of it, it's nuts. you have to look really close to spot some brush strokes that look like not really how a human would do them. nobody's going to be looking that closely at a poster though. you could probably run a solid business just taking old graphic design from the internet and upscaling it like this and selling it as replicas at art shows.

or just...art in general. i made myself a high res copy of wadsworth's famous Dazzle-ships painting from the medium-res version on wikipedia, and i might just print it for my wall. smdh

I ran it through Gigapixel using 60cm height at 300dpi, tried both the 'Lines' and 'Art' modes and I think the Art one was slightly better.

i used gigapixel with the latest "very compressed" model and here is the result, on the left. your SD version on the right.

it's very close. i think the gigapixel version is a little more "true" to the original (if that means anything) while yours goes harder on enhancing the linework and contrast. yours is probably the better direction for this particular piece, yea

amazing what these things can do

photoshop is trying to cram its new "generative fill" feature down my throat so here it is. you just select an area and say what you want there.

it's pretty stupid. it can get one thing at a time, like a guinea pig or a pair of sunglasses. but if i say "guinea pig wearing sunglasses" it just repeatedly gives me sunglasses. "cyber skull" mostly ignored the cyber part. so it's pretty basic. it does do a good job of blending and masking the object into the scene i guess.

it wouldn't let me generate "marijuana leaf."

the thing in the corner is apparently A Yospos.

lmao at that first one

canonically the minions naturally seek out the evilest supervillain around and follow that guy, like imprinting or something. this has happened for millions of years. they are shown following a t-rex, an egyptian pharaoh, etc.

in 1939-1945 they didn't follow any villain because they were lost at the south pole. this is also canon

No, this is a model called "juggernaut"that I got from civitAI that I've found works the best for humans for me. I also have those other ones you mentioned. It can do perfectly good versions of most other celebrities, and excellent versions of totally synthetic people. It's just Elon who looks like Michael Jackson x Hannibal Lecter.

"a photograph of richard nixon shaking hands with natalie portman"

"cecilia, you're breaking my heart"

"jeff bezos stands in front of his penis-shaped rocket ship"

"elon musk stands in front of his electric cybertruck"

and here is "elon musk drinks the poison lemonade from panera" in a couple of different models, same seed

starting with juggernaut_aftermath, probably the best and most flattering

deliberate

realisticvision

(i get the impression that this model was only tuned on softcore porn, so it doesn't do all that well with men's faces)
