I was hoping with the show off and the writers strike JAJ would've taken to Twitter or Tiktok to blather on about Zelda nonsense in the vein of one of his older Trump impression videos but no such luck.

I did take the opportunity to grab tickets to see him in a couple months so hopefully that is fun

And to continue in that vein, please enjoy these goodbyes from Chloe, writer Jake Nordwind, and Bowen. I rehosted them from Instagram because I loathe that platform and thought others might appreciate seeing them in a format that doesn't completely suck. I was gifted tickets to Colin Jost towards the end of June. Be interesting to see if he discusses the strike.

Programming note: After tonight's rerun of the S48 premiere (Miles Teller with Kendrick Lamar), in place of NBC's usual 1st Look rerun, a special edited-for-network-television presentation of the second episode of Bupkis, the Pete Davidson show about Pete Davidson. This show, produced by Lorne and Broadway Video, delves into the subject of Pete Davidson, and stars Pete Davidson (The King of Staten Island, a film about Pete Davidson, and SNL, where he played not-Pete Davidson as many as four times) and Joe Pesci.

I wasn't too impressed with E01, but 2 was an improvement. I can understand why they chose to air the second ep because there is no gay 3-D Earth where you could possibly edit E01 for American broadcast television.

Anyway it airs at 1:03am/12:03 central, check it out if you like. Or don't! Nobody will judge you.

Oh yes, and NBC has been lining up advertisers for the still-16-months-away 50th season of SNL. It was revealed at this week's upfronts, heavily-protested by the WGA, that the 50th anniversary celebration will air Sunday February 16th 2025, which is the same weekend the 40th aired (2015.02.15).

Lorne's talked up a big Radio City anniversary special yesterday:

He says this one will be streaming for both length and content.

Crazy how she was roasted for this, including by SNL host Joe Pesci the following week I think, and most people I know are totally fine with it now, and acknowledge she was completely right. (Not crazy that she was roasted at the time, more a comment on how things have changed.) Also, this performance is amazing.

Legend.

Was a big thing in Ireland too when it happened. Hugely troubled, her son committed suicide not too long ago and from her own mouth, this was nearly inevitable.

The thing I find despicable is, that for a 'bit', they taped together the very picture that Sinead's mother had on the wall while she was abused by her. A dark day for SNL in my books.

What?

The picture that Sinead tore up, was a picture from the Pope's visit to Ireland in the 70's. This picture hung on the wall of Sinead's home, the very home she was abused sexually by her mother. So tearing this picture up wasn't just a protest against abuse in the Catholic church, but of the hypocrisy of her own mother on the one hand celebrating Catholicism, while on the other hand, abusing one of her children.

So to apparently pick this picture up, then taping it back together as a gently caress you to Sinead, is kinda hosed up. I'm not sure how true it is that Pesci had the actual photo, but David Spade claims to have a piece, which is missing in Pesci's monologue.

I was 7 or 8 when this happened and I remember the controversy surrounding it but didn't quite get it and then years later I found it she was trying to bring the light the abuse of the church with its priests and this was a decade before the Boston Globe article.

Point being, she tried to tell us and no one was willing to listen.

Nora Dunn Did Nothing Wrong.

Also, I was surprised with Tracy too but was more surprised that Cheri Oteri was an rear end in a top hat to him. Chris Kattan I think has issues.

Do professional athletes have a union? They should get in on it, do a strike during Big Televised Game.

Wrestlers too.

Maybe we just get every kind of performer and then other types of workers to fill in for a week of SNL and then send em off with union pamphlets. Instead of remembering celeb hosts we can recall the Walmart week or how surprisingly good caterer's week was.

Strikes are illegal when a valid collective bargaining agreement is still in effect (and this is the case with all the major North American sports leagues).

No one knew about them (as far as I know) until Swift showed up at the Chiefs game the other night, and they left together at the end of it. It kind of blew everyone's minds.

And now you reminded me of that American Girl Café sketch, so thank you for that.
