The first thing I ever typed in a browser bar was farts.com. http://web.archive.org/web/19981212024901/http://www.farts.com/ Oh hell yeah. I need to find that story about the camping trip and the partially rehydrated tuna noodle cassarole and the farts trapped in the sleeping bag that had me in loving tears back in the day. The stories section isn't working. Boo. Bluemillion fucked around with this message at 04:27 on Apr 6, 2023 |

I absolutely remember: it was "music jokes" and it led me to this page, miraculously still up, which I printed out and handed out to kids at school edit: "sound off in the comments!" is, even by the standards of web comics, a terrible final-panel punchline holy poo poo Dijkstracula fucked around with this message at 14:52 on Apr 6, 2023 |

it was in my home town's public library on a shared computer you could reserve for an hour at a time, and the search itself was almost definitely about a) scary movies, b) professional wrestling, or c) the newspaper comic strip foxtrot.

there weren’t really any search engines at the time. I remember going to a page on the caltech website that had some sort of prototype search engine. I don’t remember what my first search was, but it was probably some anime thing.
