There’s a section in the book ‘And the Band Played On’ by Randy Shilts where he talks about this exact thing and it sounds insanely fun, if you were into that. I spent most of my wild youth in SF, but it was the AIDS era before decent meds, and I’m straight, so I witnessed much less debauchery than what went on earlier.
