self-deprecation is a very british trait, and problems can arise when the british attempt to do so with a foreign culture

So Nichushkin's agent said that the intoxicated woman wasn't in his room, which does actually square up with everything previously reported if she was found in the hallway outside of his room when the team went to check on him. Also a Denver police lieutenant was travelling with the team and appears to have been in the hotel and gave a report to the Seattle police, which sounds incredibly bizarre to me. Do teams normally take police with them when travelling? It sounds like the team doctor that made the 911 call got the Denver cop to the scene before Seattle police arrived.

This is weird and I hope journalists keep looking into it

edit: It should be pointed out that if Nichushkin checked into rehab or something like that then the team wouldn't actually be able to say anything other than something like he entered the Player Assistance Program and because it's not in the regular season he doesn't actually need to enter the Player's Assistance Program to miss time with the team

probably all the american teams employ off duty police as private security. any kind of police interactions go down easier when you've got a tame one on your side to facilitate. it's a little more complicated in canada so the canadian teams are probably using retired cops instead.

Because the Knights are going to win the Cup, and only players on the team that won the Cup are allowed to get the Smythe unless you're an insanely hot goalie that dragged a mediocre team all the way to Game 7 of the Finals which is not going to happen in Bob's case, they'll be crushed in 4 or 5, and since Vegas used two goalies and have no superstar defenseman whoever leads them in points is going to get the Smythe.

It's always fun watching a mediocre team live the Canadian farmgirl dream and ride a searing hot goalie, but the Panthers aren't going to luckbox their way all the way to the Cup. The Knights are comprehensively better, and unlike Florida's previous three opponents have no obvious flaw such as grinding their best players down chasing a regular season record and then stubbornly sticking with their badly injured goalie for 6 games, being the Toronto Maple Leafs, or inflexibly playing an exploitable system in front of bad goalies. The Finals will turn out the same way the 2021 Finals did.

e: all of that said, I do have to acknowledge that if Hill gets hurt the Panthers are in with a chance.

the knights are so incredibly slept on everywhere on the internet. they're obviously the best team remaining and were obviously one of the best three teams in the playoffs from the start but people have acted like every one of their series wins has been an upset

i like vegas because they're a great example of what a team can be if they don't give a poo poo about what the fans think. waive your most popular player? trade all your draft picks and prospects for stars? care more about performance than marketing? yes, yes, yes!

I need to go back and read who people thought Vegas should have taken.

The Kraken one was interesting where they had five or six picks who they straight up cut before the season, which just seems insane. But can distract you from all the stuff they got right.

i still think the right plan for a new team is to just avoid money. if you can get a good player on a reasonable contract sure go for it but if your choice is max domi or selecting and then cutting whatever a gavin bayreuther is then you should go for gavin bayreuther. you can get way better value from the 5m of cap space you'd be giving up if you take domi

looking back at seattle their only real misses were pitlick over bunting from arizona, doonskoi over compher from colorado (altho i think there was some consideration in this one? not sure) and driedger over montour from florida. everything else was pretty inconsequential
