The rocket blew up because Musk fired the engineers who told him he needed to dig and make a bigger base to launch off. The pad blew UP and rocks and concrete hit the rocket and kaboom. He didn't want to pay for the environmental impact statement that will say they aren't allowed to big a deeper and bigger pad. Musk will fire the people who report this back.
