My understanding is that previous writers strike the wording around talk shows was vague but the rules about it have been subsequently tightened. Which is why everyone stopped when the strike happened.

This tweet tries to understand it and yeah, it sounds like the loophole that allowed it to go on back in 07 no longer exists

The Talk and Jennifer Hudson Show set to resume during the dual strikes.

I guess they figured if Drew Barrymore could do it, they could, too.

While Jennifer isn’t WGA, Talk is, and it’s also CBS. With this + Drew it really sounds like an ultimatum from up top (still shouldn’t do it though)

They probably especially want Talk so they can air the reruns late night because until then, all they have is this:

10 Year old (at best) dated comedy reruns of a syndicated show no one knows about or has seen

Time for everyone to shout at Bill Maher and those other 2-4 talk shows that were also coming back but tried to stay under the radar while Drew Barrymore drew all the fire

Other CBS show the talk is following suit:

Today I learned Dancing with the Stars is a WGA show (through its exec producer, who’s apparently it’s sole writer but it counts)

Oh trust me i know, I’m just trusting this a little more because someone I trust linked it (and it didn’t lead in with “Oh the Strikes are Over” it just reads as more basic information.

The Variety article's headline was telling with its 'best and final offer.' Final is debatable and 'best' would be 'all of the WGA's easily met demands.'

Yeah it looks like sometime between the time I posted and now, it got “updated” to something much more sensational and trad-y so. Egg on my Face there

I’ll be the (slight) disagreer, I think the fact that I saw a fair amount of DGA members on Twitter complain about the lovely deal they got has me thinking (hoping?) it’s just a lot of lovely leadership at top.
