I love Adam Conover.

Like, I was just having an argument with a friend of mine about this, who was a bit confused, but kind of against the writers striking because he selfishly wanted his content to continue. I sent him this, and he replied, "Oh, but see, the studios agreed to training sessions to fix the problem… ok yeah, go writers"

Important to note that streamers have different goals. Amazon wants people to subscribe to watch their stuff so people buy more things with Prime on their website. Disney cares about IP boosts in movies, toys, theme parks, and a billion other merchandising.

Which is so strange to me, because I only watch Prime stuff because I already have Prime for free shipping on the stuff I buy from them. And, anecdotal I know, but everyone I talk to who has Prime is the same way. I have no idea why they spend so much money on their streaming stuff, because I've never thought about it bringing people in so they buy stuff from Amazon until you just said it now. I'd be curious to see numbers on if that actually happens, but I know they would never release them.

And Max has said they're going to fix it, calling it an "oversight". Which is obviously bullshit, but whatever.

Hell yes. My 94 year old grandfather was still receiving his Teamster pension last year when he passed away. I think my 93 year old grandmother still receives some of it, or got a payout when he died? He always said they took care of them.

Remember when everyone was praising this guy's return to Disney like he was some great savior? Or did that not extend outside of Florida?

Idk if I'd say praising was the prevailing attitude but more "oh cool, this guy is an rear end in a top hat but he's going after an even bigger rear end in a top hat (DeSantis)" kind of vibe.

That came a little later. When he came back, I remember people saying he was going to fix the movies, and fix the parks, as if several of the things people were complaining about weren't put in place by Iger in the first place before he left.

Again, this praise may not have extended outside of Florida. It may have had more to do with the parks (like the new FastPass system, or whatever they're calling it. Genie+, I think?). And it was always dumb anyway.

I'll say this about Eisner - he appeared in the intros for the Wonderful World of Disney when he ran the company, and I'm sure Iger would never do that.

This is why I liked Eisner so much as a kid. This right here. He was the (kinda lame) nice man welcoming me to whatever cool movie I was about to watch. AND HE TALKED TO MICKEY!

Then I got a bit older and had friends who worked in the parks and I got over that.

The only way to take that statement at face value is to assume he hosed up and said "support striking" when he meant "like striking". Which is...pretty drat sketchy. So yeah, no, I don't buy that. He's just dumb, didn't realize how his thoughts would play, and is now playing damage control to save his career.

I'm curious if they gave ground on AI learning from writers, but put in place stricter rules on not allowing AI written content to be used? I don't know if that's knowable yet, and even if so, that's probably a band-aid at best. And I'm just guessing here.

Basically, I want to know more.

To bring things slightly more back on topic, Maude being killed off on The Simpsons was a direct result of a pay dispute wasn't it? To the point that there's a joke in one of the later seasons where Homer is sobbing about how he wishes he was rich and gets progressively more upset as he sees the names of the executive producers in the credits and is despairing at how rich they are.... then the voice actors names come up and he goes,"Oh those people are rich too.... not as rich as they should be...." before wailing in pure horror when Matt Groening's name comes up.

Oh god I remember this. "Rich! Rich!"

I'm glad the AI stuff appears to be good to my layman eyes, since that was a huge sticking point. "You have to get my permission and I get paid as if it were a real job" seems pretty reasonable.

The streaming stuff sucks, but I try to watch the shows I'm interested in early, so I'll keep trying to DO MY PART! and now I'll feel like it's actually helping? I guess? But that feels more and more like movies where they have to succeed at the box office early or they're nothing (since physical media is dying). Cult classics and late successes are going to increasingly become a thing of the past.
