there has to be some interesting studies on this. I've never met anyone i talked with that claimed they ran an internal monologue constantly. Like that snake scenario, you go reptile brain for your "safety" When the brain gets bored it goes into goes into monologue to keep it busy maybe? gently caress i dunno. music is good at shutting it up so is reading.. i find that interesting and yet again i don't get a monologue when im showering usually unless im stressed out and anxious... maybe its the way of keeping the go go juice to the brain when you don't feel calm?

Internal monologues don't, from what I know and other people have said, often play out "in real time". Much in the same way that you can have a full memory pop into your head but it doesn't take the entire real time length of the memory to see it all. It's basically a monologue, or conversation, or whatever played out very quickly, because it's entirely internal, so it happens at brain speed, not body speed. That's probably the simplest way to put it.
