I was on the boat between Helsinki and Stockholm and heard a house remix Killing Me Softly With His Song that made me wonder, who asked for this?

In that thread, what other songs aren’t really crying out for a remix or cover? Lennon’s Imagine but dubstep? Second Wave Black Metal The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald? J-Pop Werewolves of London (uwuuuuuu werewolves of London)?

Bonus points if you manage to find an example. Totally fine if you like the actual original or cover, ain’t no shame (maybe)

Killing Me Softly is an interesting one to kick this off because almost everyone I know thinks it's a Fugees song.

she had tiny Italian boobs.
Well that's my story.
I like the Roberta Flack original well enough but the Fugees absolutely exploded the airwaves in the 90s with their cover to the point that it's pretty ubiquitous, kinda like how "I Will Always Love You" became ingrained in pop culture as Whitney Houston's biggest hit while lots of people probably aren't aware it's a cover of Dolly Parton's original song

Hell, I'm pretty sure I remember Dolly Parton gave an interview one time where she was like "yeah that's 100% her song now"

e: for actual content and since we're talking about the nineties, how about Limp Bizkit's cover of "Behind Blue Eyes" complete with inexplicable robot voice

Anyway, my pick is No Doubt's cover of It's My Life, unnecessary because they recreated the original with too much reverence, and added almost nothing to make it their own.

How about their abominable cover of George Michael's "Faith", in which they change a key word?

Original:
Well, I guess it would be nice
If I could touch your body
I know not everybody
Has got a body like you

They changed "...like you" to "...like me".

That doesn't even make sense.

One of my favorite memories was when this topped TRL, one of the comments from a fan that they would show at the bottom of the screen, was praising Fred Durst and the band for having written such impactful, meaningful lyrics.

Also Take A Look Around for getting to use the mission impossible theme. And for containing an ad for New Era, I'm assuming Fred had an endorsement deal.

Weezer's cover of Africa is just so lacking in soul, if I remember correctly it was done because people kept making jokes about it and the band seems to have taken the jokes seriously.

wherein the band member just bitches and moans about how much money stuff costs and why can't they just keep all the money for themselves! music is stupid and our fans should be bending over backwards to throw money at us
