e: for actual content and since we're talking about the nineties, how about Limp Bizkit's cover of "Behind Blue Eyes" complete with inexplicable robot voice

How about their abominable cover of George Michael's "Faith", in which they change a key word?

Original:
Well, I guess it would be nice
If I could touch your body
I know not everybody
Has got a body like you

They changed "...like you" to "...like me".

That doesn't even make sense.

I just remembered that Madonna covered "American Pie" and should not have done so.

One of my favorite memories was when this topped TRL, one of the comments from a fan that they would show at the bottom of the screen, was praising Fred Durst and the band for having written such impactful, meaningful lyrics.

Weezer's cover of Africa is just so lacking in soul, if I remember correctly it was done because people kept making jokes about it and the band seems to have taken the jokes seriously.

On the flip side, Ninja Sex Party's cover of Africa is actually really, really good.

Nice

There seems to be a cottage industry of people making covers for Africa. This one is great; stick around for the outro too

Machine Gun Kelly's cover of "Aerials" by System of a Down was tremendously awful.

that zombie cover by some butt rock band after dolores died
Speaking of trash covers of important political songs, noted right-wing lunatic Dave Mustaine covered "Anarchy in the UK"

Evidently Dolores was supposed to provide some vocals for that "Zombie" cover before she died. I don't want to say that no one should cover that song, but uh, I'd get the approval of the surviving members of The Cranberries first.

Puddle of Mud's "REEEEEEEOW" cover of About a Girl. Maybe the worst real song I've heard ever. Say what you will about Kurt Kobain, but the dude wasn't doing a lot of complicated vocal stuff. This rear end in a top hat is straining like he's holding in a poo poo the entire time.

I have been thinking about this a lot for the past few days because it's one of the funniest things I've ever seen. His bandmates are obviously used to having to keep their composure during performances like that.

First to Eleven is capable of making good covers. This is not one of them.

To be frank, if you've heard a few of their songs and haven't liked any...none? I like them less and less myself the more I hear.

The band itself is really good but the singer’s voice just isn’t the right fit for most of the songs they cover.
Yeah, I agree. Contrast their version of Toxicity with this one by their friends and sometimes collaborators (which, granted, has 3 vocalists):
